Four days until voters in the former East German state of Saxony-Anhalt go to the polls to elect their government.
Four days of angst, worry, and rising fear that disaffected citizens might finally be driven to turn the ruling status quo firmly from their grasp on any sort of coalition and out of power completely.
Four days of dreading that the years of marginalizing, demonizing, and criminalizing the populist Alternativ for Germany (AfD) Party are about to blow up spectacularly in their faces, and there is nothing left the entrenched political parties that have run the German Republic into the ground can do about it.
In Brandenburg yesterday, there was an attack on the high-voltage substation of the local power plant with what were determined to be homemade rockets and explosives in an obvious attempt to knock out the grid.
According to media reports, a key installation near the Jänschwalde coal plant in Brandenburg was repeatedly targeted with rockets, which emergency crews later found and defused.
Several improvised explosive devices were found at a substation near a coal-fired power plant in Germany on Tuesday and several power lines were damaged, police and a grid operator said.
Operator 50Hertz said there was a "brief interruption of service" but all lines are now back in operation at the Preilack substation, which distributes power from the nearby Jänschwalde power plant.
Police said no one was hurt.
The apparent aim was to trigger a large-scale power outage in the area around the nearby coal-fired power plant. According to initial findings, however, this did not happen.
The devices were fiendishly simple and included copper wires meant to become tangled in power lines, shorting out what the explosives themselves could not damage.
BREAKING | 🇩🇪‼️‼️ Germany has suffered an attempted rocket attack on its power grid, with more than 20 improvised projectiles reportedly designed to knock out electricity transmission infrastructure in Brandenburg.

...According to BILD and WELT, the apparent target was a substation near the Jänschwalde power plant. The homemade rockets were fitted with copper wires intended to wrap around high-voltage transmission lines and trigger short circuits, while analog timers were used for activation. At least two projectiles struck power lines and caused limited damage, although the total number launched remains unclear. Police have confirmed at least one explosion at the Turnow-Preilack substation in southern Brandenburg.
The timing makes the incident especially sensitive. Germany and other NATO states are already warning of a broader pattern of Russian hybrid activity across Europe involving drones, sabotage, cyber operations and pressure against critical infrastructure. There is currently no attribution in this case, but an attack deliberately designed to disrupt the power grid fits exactly the kind of vulnerability Moscow has repeatedly been accused of probing. If a Russian connection is eventually established, it would represent another dangerous step in the expansion of the confrontation beyond Ukraine and deeper into NATO territory.
It's certainly feeding the German government's Russian paranoia, although many observers believe it's instead the country's insane, homegrown radical-leftist contingent taking advantage of Friedrich Merz's ineffective and incompetent central government.
And early this morning, there was determined to have been a second unsuccessful attempt to sabotage another substation's operation in Westphalia.

Police were called overnight after a short circuit caused several high-voltage lines to fail. Investigators now say they do not believe it was a technical fault,… pic.twitter.com/WhZ8ygEKma
...they do not believe it was a technical fault, but a deliberate act.
The general power supply was not affected, and households remained connected.
The incident comes on the same day as another suspected sabotage attempt near the Jänschwalde power plant in Brandenburg.
Police are currently searching the site for possible evidence and have not yet said what was used.
No one is really falling for the 'RUSSIA! RUSSIA! RUSSIA!' finger-pointing, as the whole country is well aware of what the German Left has been doing unimpeded for decades.

And what is the federal government doing?
It's staring intently at Russia and letting the left-wing extremists run wild.
It's as if the Left is the German version of Voldemort. As every slur in the book is employed against the AfD - NAZI! RIGHT-WING-EXTREMIST! HARD RIGHT! WHITE SUPREMACISTS! - violent German leftists keep throwing bombs, setting booby traps on power lines, or sabotaging train tracks, and yet remains 'they who shall not be named.'
It is one more mark in the column against the flaming ineptitude and mendacity of the ruling Merz's coalition. His Christian Democratic Union (CDU) partners, the Christian Socialists (CSU), in concert with the center-left Social Democrats (SPD).
The mainstream CDU is now dredging in historically unpopular depths for them, and the SPD opinion polls have fallen so far that they are battling the fringe party Greens for third place. AfD is out in front of Merz's CDU/CSU bloc nationally by 7 to 8 points, while in the upcoming, critical Saxony-Anhalt elections this Sunday, they have notched a staggering 43% in the same polls.

Merz is a mess, as evidenced by two recent videos.
The first is a campaign appearance in Kühlungsborn, a Baltic seaside resort town known for its historic spas. Merz was going to glad-hand his way around the streets and had a press conference scheduled.
Their welcome was as chilly as the Baltic on a winter's day, so much so that the rattled chancellor hastily canceled the presser.
It's amazing how communal whistling can be wielded as such a vicious, derogatory tool.
Merz's days are numbered.

Germans in Kühlungsborn called him exactly what he is: a warmonger and a liar.

He did.
The second clue that things aren't going Merz's way was two badly managed appearances on TV.
I mean, what kind of answer is this when you're going to get your clock cleaned at the ballot box because of bungling these very things?

Asked why 20% of Germans are CONSIDERING emigration, the Chancellor laughed instead of addressing the CRISIS.
Factories are closing, the economy is collapsing, and he JOKES.

It was almost Barack Obama-ish to me.
As were these exhortations; only Obama would never be so uncool delivering them.
Friedrich Merz, German Chancellor:
"We simply are no longer productive enough. Everyone can say: 'I'm already doing a lot.'
But when you return from China, ladies and gentlemen, you will see things more clearly.
With work-life balance and a four-day workweek, we cannot sustain long-term prosperity in our country. We simply have to work harder."
No, you need to deport all the freeloading foreigners, fake asylum seekers, and illegal immigrants.
— DesertChad (@Desert_Chad) September 2, 2026
Stop the socialist programs for non-Germans, and most your problems will disappear almost immediately.
But Obama, like Merz, would never accept the hard, obvious truths in answer, either.
AfD will most probably romp home in Saxony-Anhalt on Sunday. Merz will be crushed and remain clueless.
The radical left will scamper about the country unimpeded, sowing chaos while pointy fingers go in Russia's direction, and the losers weep about Nazis.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen closes those four factories.
Clueless.
