What's Up With Marjorie Taylor...Pink?

Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has never really been on my radar, and certainly not one of my favorites. More often than not, she's been really annoying - just another one of those loudmouthed, lightweight gadflies of which there are and have been so many.

That's not to say she hasn't had her moments, and I certainly wouldn't want to shortchange her there. Her vociferous defense of President Trump through all his travails, for one. And her advocacy for the jailed January 6 defendants, wasting away in a D.C. gulag, was truly admirable and courageous. Especially at a time when you could hardly find a soul willing to say the date in public, let alone champion those incarcerated in such fashion for the riot.

Her visits to the facility were dismissed as a 'stunt' by sneering liberal media and Democrat colleagues, so you know the conditions she exposed drew blood.

A jail in Washington has become the latest focal point of the US culture wars after a congressional delegation led by the Republican extremist Marjorie Taylor Greene visited defendants charged in 2021’s deadly January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol and championed them as “political prisoners”.

Greene high-fived the detainees and shook their hands, according to the Associated Press. As the tour group was leaving, the defendants chanted “Let’s go Brandon!”, an offensive phrase denigrating Democratic president Joe Biden.

Greene was joined by fellow far-right Republican members of the House oversight committee during a two-hour tour of the DC jail on Friday. The group included extremist Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert, who embraced Micki Witthoeft, the mother of Ashli Babbitt, the woman shot dead by police as she participated in the Capitol riot, NBC News reported.

This is at least the second visit that Greene has made in a campaign to reframe the incarcerated January 6 rioters from alleged violent insurrectionists into martyrs of the far-right cause. This time, however, her stunt was joined by Democratic members of the oversight committee who attended the tour so that they could hold their Republican peers to account, they said.

We won’t let Marjorie Taylor Greene and these … extremists tell lies about the insurrectionists and their attack on our democracy,” one of the Democratic visitors, Robert Garcia of California, said before the tour began.

I did write a smidge about her in 2022, when the Democrats thought they'd pivot to MTG as 'the face of the GOP' as Republicans regained control of Congress.

...Having shameless Shifty Schiff as message boy on this bit of gaslighting is a particularly nice touch, no? (It’s hard to pick a more despised mouthpiece – him or Swalwell – but jeeps.) Surely someone else was available? There are two glaring problems with this angle of attack right off the bat.

The first is that no sane person – mind you, this messaging is supposed to be going out to all Americans – thinks MTG is the face of the GOP. Trump aside, arguably Ron DeSantis is the poster boy for who we are and where we want to be. The conundrum with them making a federal case over MTG is that, while she very often steps in it, just as often she’s the only one talking about things the Biden administration would prefer left under a rock. For example, her crusade to get into the D.C. jail to visit January 6 defendants and expose the ghastly conditions there was a tour de force of plain old-fashioned bullheadedness. What a hue and cry of outrage resulted. I know Dems think they’ve got this demonization thing nailed, but it’ll be lovely when it bites them in the tookus.

That, for me, was an MTG I could easily applaud, although major dad did express sincere admiration for her ability to do pull-ups on the bar with Marines during a Fleet Week in the Big Apple. In all sincerity, I had to admit that it was impressive.

If only she'd flexed those muscles on some introspection and self-control, maybe we wouldn't be where we are today. But then again, a personality like hers is a pretty volatile thing, and chilling out is a learned skillset.

The falling out with Trump has been unfortunate for both of them because of the sniping, but it's looking as if it's going to be a devastating, self-induced implosion for MTG.

The first hint is the cause of the break-up itself. If everything is true about it, the entire episode is due to the woman being unable to accept that she wasn't owed a Trump endorsement for a Georgia U.S. Senate run based purely on loyalty - she also had to be a viable candidate. To their credit, the Trump team tried to dissuade Greene's ambitions in that direction by repeatedly proving with reams of data that, however popular she might be in her district and in segments of a cable viewing population, the rest of the voters in Georgia had her pegged as an 'Aw, HAY-YULL, no!'

The Trump team was being pragmatic and merciful - one cannot waste a seat. MTG couldn't take the hint and took a hike.

She stewed in her juices over what she perceived as a snub, gradually doing a baffling 180° like her head was spinning in a horror movie, swiftly slipping over the edge.

There was the petty he said/she saids public tantrum displays about only the President of the United States.

I know I got pretty torqued during the shutdown when I heard her publicly ream Speaker Johnson over the ObamaCare subsidies. It was the Republicans' responsibility to have an alternative if they weren't going to vote to extend them, Greene insisted in that irritating af voice. She ranted about how Republicans had never had a plan for an ObamaCare replacement.

Well, as I explained here, the poor, misinformed, excitable, execrable woman was sadly mistaken. What a shame she didn't check with someone before running her yap.

But that was only one of a number of lurches left. There were The View appearances, 60 Minutes - all the virulently progressive outlets that had always despised her now suddenly had to get an MTG fill-up. Surprisingly, she seemed willing to forgive past slings and arrows and be seen on them.

It all culminated in the ultimate 'left' - abandoning her seat in Congress...right after she qualified for that pension, of course.

I guess this final 'up yours' to really no one but herself had freed the Georgia spitfire to act all wild and crazier.

She sure has burnt some bridges with her latest stunt and snuggly office photos.

Medea Benjamin and Code Pink - MTG besties.

VURT IN DE ACTUAL FURK?

It's as if MTPink can't wait for anyone to build her political funeral pyre for her. She's gathering the progressive sticks, pouring the fuel, and using a flamethrower on the bonfire of her vanity all by her loneself.

One shouldn't be the least bit concerned about wondering if she's gone loopy - or, more accurately, loopier.

Oh, hi.

Scott Jennings called the MTP backflip out about a month ago, as the rift over the Epstein files exploded, and things have played out almost exactly as he said they would then.

...Marjorie Taylor Greene has officially gone from “Trump warrior” to full-blown Trump critic on some of his BIGGEST wins of the year. And she’s doing it on The View. The View. That tells you everything.

Jennings lays it out brutally:

She opposed Trump on deportations.

She opposed Trump on the Middle East.

She opposed Trump on hammering the Houthis and Iran.

She’s been sniping at him nonstop.

This is the same path every other Republican took before they turned into full-time Trump bashers. Same script. Same downfall. Same desperate craving for attention.

If you want to call yourself an ally of President Trump, maybe don’t sprint to left-wing TV shows to trash him 24 hours a day.

MTG chose her lane. And it’s not with the movement anymore.

Only now it has pink Communist Chinese icing on the crazy cake.

She's going to be shocked when she finds out, once she completes her turncoat to her new friends, that she's not remotely as popular - nor marketable - as even vile Liz Cheney. She's meant only to be a momentary sideshow act to entertain those elitists.

The girl's a trainwreck, but yay!

It's not our problem, and I, for one, am delighted she self-deported.
