After a Week of Not-So-Great Headlines, VA's Spanberger Happy to Grab Another One

If there's one thing you can say about Democrats lately, it is that they are consistent in their dogged adherence to their peculiar madness.

I'm truly baffled why this is so, but damned if they don't have an opening to scoot safely through as big as a train tunnel to mitigate current damage and avoid further disaster, and yet?

They reenact the commercial with the teens in the horror movie, foregoing the running car in favor of hiding in the shed festooned with hanging chainsaws. where a masked man in overalls waits in the shadows.

The implied serial killer lifts his mask to look at the camera, shaking his head in disgust.

Now, I'm not disgusted by any means. In fact, I am the exact opposite - wholly delighted they're such confirmed dopes.

However, I must admit that I am constantly bemused by their perpetual bad decision-making. Not a single one of them has shown any capacity for the slightest course adjustment in the face of adversity. Which, again, is okay by me, wishing them the worst in their campaigns.

To recap Abigail Spanberger's lousy week so far, it started with the northern school districts once again poking the parental bear, Spanberger's absence from any engagement and well-known support for transgender issues, and culminated in a racist sign held high at a school board rally by one of her campaign workers going viral country-wide. The vicious attack on Lt Gov Winsome Earle-Sears was not addressed by a soul at the rally, the offender was not spoken to until 'negative TV' attention got local party higher-ups squirmy, and Spanberger, who also ducked that same rally where Earle-Sears was appearing, initially ducked commenting about the entire ugly incident.

Well, until the heat got to be too much.

The Democratic Party leaders in Virginia came out swinging about the incident in their own special way, no doubt helping immensely.

This public relations genius is the party's Vice-Chair of the Rules Committee.

And he had a grand time doing The Twist while he was doubling down.

According to the latest polling, a seventeen-point advantage for Spanberger has shrunk to seven.

Now, I'm not sure how popular illegal immigrants are in Virginia, and if most of the voters in the state are into being a sanctuary dominion, or not. But looking through a political lens in light of events of this past week, I'm not sure this is a helpful headline for Spanberger.

What the hell - have at it, girlfriend.

Democratic nominee for governor Abigail Spanberger says one of her first acts if elected would be to undo Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s February directive requiring Virginia law enforcement to help carry out federal immigration crackdowns — a policy she argues wastes local resources and undermines community trust.

“I would rescind his executive order, yes,” Spanberger told The Mercury in a lengthy policy interview earlier this month, referring to Youngkin’s Executive Order 47 issued in February. The order gave state police and corrections officers authority to perform certain immigration duties and also urged local jails to fully cooperate with federal deportation operations.

...“Our immigration system is absolutely broken,” she said. “The idea that we would take local police officers or local sheriff’s deputies in amid all the things that they have to do, like community policing or staffing our jails or investigating real crimes, so that they can go and tear families apart … that is a misuse of those resources.”

'So that they can go and TEAR FAMILIES APART' - oh, give it a rest already.

According to a slightly hysterical article from a local news station just a few days ago, the fields are full of ripe illegal pickings in Virginia. I'm assuming this is what candidate Spanberger is objecting to, as arrests havge picked up thanks to Gov Youngkin's executive order of assistance.

‘Unprecedented’: ICE arrests more than 4,000 across Virginia in just 6 months

Immigration attorneys say Virginia has seen an unprecedented rise in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity over the past six months.

Data the Deportation Data Project obtained from the federal government shows ICE agents have made at least 4,179 arrests across Virginia since January — more than five times the number of arrests made during the same time period in 2024.

“We’ve never seen this level of people being picked up by ICE — detained at courthouses, detained during routine immigration enforcement,” said Charles Schmidt, president of the Richmond Community Legal Fund.

...Schmidt said agents have become “more efficient” in how they carry out enforcement actions, often using unmarked cars, wearing face masks and working alongside agencies like the FBI and state police. The attorney called this “unprecedented.”

The data also shows that 57% of those arrested are not facing criminal charges.

I'll bet government 'efficiency is unprecedented.'

Unsurprisingly, the uber-blue northern counties, much as with the trans battle, are leading the charge against immigration enforcement, and perhaps Spanberger is trying to shore up her support in those areas?

...They urged Richmond to pass legislation prohibiting police and other city agencies from cooperating with ICE — a step some Virginia localities have already taken. Arlington County, for example, strengthened its “Trust Policy” in late 2024 to increase protections for immigrant communities after data showed many residents feared calling 911. Advocates said Richmond should make a similar commitment to public safety for all residents.

And with the funding from the Big Beautiful Bill in hand, there is more enforcement on the way, a fact that immigration opponents are busy beating the demonizing bushes in every way they can.

...Following Trump's "big, beautiful bill" bill passed in July, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has received a massive boost in funding to the point where it rivals – and even is projected to top, in some cases - the total military budgets of major countries around the world.

The bill provides $45 billion for immigration detention to increase from the currently funded level of a daily average of 41,500 people to at least 100,000, by far the most on record.

...Though some speculate that Trump will try spend the money more quickly, on average that translates to an estimated $29.9 billion or so for the budget year that starts on October 1 according to some projections – roughly tripling the approximately $10.4 billion allocated for the current fiscal year.

...Projecting an estimated $30 billion or so for next year, the ICE budget would soon be comparable or more than the entire military budgets of some countries, including Brazil.

"We're in a dark place," said Bianca Tylek, executive director of the advocacy group Worth Rises. "I think that what I've been reflecting on is just the power of fear and how little it has to do with reality."

Tops the budget of 'major' countries. Those would be 'The Netherlands, Switzerland, Brazil, and Algeria', etc.

I can only assume that Spanberger's brain trust feels that talking out of both sides of her mouth on this issue - advocating for illegals while portraying it as concern for local policing - is going to appeal to her core constituency in the squishy north and help pull her over the finish line. Perhaps even help those same self-absorbed elitists ignore their uncomfortable racist tendencies towards conservative black women by substituting superficial concern for the status of their gardener or the crew replacing the imitation slate tile roof on a pricey Alexandria house.

POOR JOSÉ - EVERYONE HATES ICE...NOW, COULD YOU TURN THE RADIO ON THE ROOF DOWN?

What might fly for her in the D.C. suburbs, and when those same folks are polled, is not what they're saying elsewhere in the state and the country.

Spanberger and Democrats have a real bubble-people problem there - remembering those other folks exist.

And I'm okay with that.
