Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) is expected to be indicted today. He has been on the Biden administration's radar for several years, and not in a good way.
Cuellar is the only pro-life Democrat in the House. He is openly critical of Biden's border crisis. He has represented Texas's 28th congressional district since 2005. His district extends from the Rio Grande to San Antonio's suburbs.
Cuellar is a rare centrist in today's Democrat Party. Progressive Democrats ran candidates against him in 2020 and 2022. This is a story that is breaking on a Friday. It feels like it is meant to bloody up Cuellar in an election cycle.
Abortion is a key issue in President Biden's re-election campaign. Nothing is too extreme for Democrats when it comes to abortion. Cuellar did not make any fans among Team Biden when he declared that abortion is best left up to states, not the federal government.
In April, he boldly stated his position to Punchbowl.
“It should be left up to the states,” Cuellar told us. “I’m a big believer in the big tent theory and I think [Democrats] should allow people with different religious beliefs when it comes to that.”
Nope. That's not gonna fly in today's Democrat Party.
Cuellar does not have any real opposition to his re-election this cycle. Two Republicans are running in a run-off election. Biden carried his district by 7 points in 2020. House Democrats have pledged their support of Cuellar's re-election.
Cuellar said he is not dropping out of the race.
All this goes back to an FBI raid that was conducted at Cuellar's home in Laredo and his local congressional office in January 2022. It happened just a matter of weeks before his primary election. At the time he was in a closely contested race with a progressive candidate, Jessica Cisneros, picked by Justice Democrats to run against him in the primary. She also ran against Cuellar in 2020. The 2020 race was much closer than the 2022 race. He won 56% of the vote in 2022. Justice Democrats are a far-left political action committee. They support the likes of Bernie Sanders, AOC, The Squad, and so on. You get the picture. Cisneros was a former intern with Cuellar's office and is currently an immigration lawyer.
At the time, I said that the raid and the publicity sure looked like Cuellar's opposition targeting him right before the election with the help of Biden's DOJ. The FBI and the DOJ refused to say what it was that they were investigating. ABC News reported that it had to do with a federal probe into the former Soviet state of Azerbaijan and several U.S. businessmen. A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C. was investigating the matter. Cuellar is a member of the Congressional Azerbaijan Caucus.
Cuellar responded to the news of an indictment coming his way.
In his Friday statement, Cuellar said his actions were “consistent with the actions of many of my colleagues and in the interest of the American people.”
“I want to be clear that both my wife and I are innocent of these allegations,” Cuellar said without addressing what the allegations were about. “Before I took any action, I proactively sought legal advice from the House Ethics Committee, who gave me more than one written opinion, along with an additional opinion from a national law firm.”
That's the first I've heard of his wife's involvement. Is she a potential target? Cuellar has been told since the FBI raid that he is not a target in the investigation.
Something is off here. The timing is suspicious in an election year. Cuellar is sideways with the administration and other Democrats on abortion and the open southern border. Biden has completely politicized the DOJ against those who oppose him and his policies. I don't put anything past this administration.
