Lukeville, Arizona is the current ground zero for the flood of illegal immigrants pouring over the southern border. The situation is so dire that U.S. officials are closing the port of entry there.

I say current ground zero because that distinction remains fluid. During the Biden border crisis, ground zero shifts as necessary. The human traffickers and drug cartels move from spot to spot depending on which area looks most hospitable at any given time. Right now that spot is Lukeville, Arizona, a remote area in the desert. The port of entry is being closed so that the operations officials who normally watch over vehicle and pedestrian traffic going both ways can help Border Patrol agents arrest and process the new arrivals.

That is what DHS does – instead of being agile enough to shift personnel as needed as ground zero moves, Secretary Mayorkas is closing ports of entry, the place for immigrants and visitors to legally enter the United States, instead of putting more Border Patrol agents in place. DHS is not providing enough personnel for security operations over vehicle and pedestrian traffic coming and going, as the agents are doing administrative work. It’s a waste of resources and puts the United States in jeopardy.

Customs and Border Protection announced Friday that the temporary closure of the crossing will start Monday as officials grapple with changing migration routes that have overwhelmed Border Patrol agents stationed there. Arizona’s U.S. senators and the governor called planned closure “unacceptable.”

Customs and Border Protection said it is “surging all available resources to expeditiously and safely process migrants” and will “continue to prioritize our border security mission as necessary in response to this evolving situation.”

What a mess. FNC’s reporter Bill Melugin posted a video of the illegal immigrants coming through a border wall breach. At the end of the video, you can see the human trafficker do a little salute as the last person crosses into Arizona. Unreal.

This is how large groups are getting in. This group shows many children and women crossing into Arizona. They came through as the wall was being repaired. If the repair is successful, the illegal immigrants will move down the border until they come across a hospitable place. Rinse and repeat.

The area around the desert crossing has become a major migration route in recent months, with smugglers dropping off people from countries as diverse as Senegal, India, and China. Most of them are walking into the U.S. west of Lukeville through gaps in the wall, then head east toward the official border crossing to surrender to the first agents they see in hopes of a chance at asylum.

The Border Patrol made 17,500 arrests for illegal crossings during the past week in the agency’s Tucson sector, John Modlin, the sector chief, said Friday, That translates to a daily average of 2,500, well above its daily average of 1,700 in September, when Tucson was already the busiest corridor for illegal crossings by far along U.S.-Mexico border.

Customs and Border Protection blamed the hundreds of people arriving daily around Lukeville on “smugglers peddling disinformation to prey on vulnerable individuals.”

The groups of illegal immigrants are well-organized. Human traffickers are escorting them to spots along the southern border and showing them where to enter. They turn themselves in and expect to be allowed to stay until their day in court arrives, which is likely to be years away, thanks to the backlog in the immigration court system. Others just run and become gotaways. There is no vetting going on with gotaways. We don’t know who they are or where they go.

Another hot spot for illegal immigration is the San Diego County, California area. Large groups of single male illegal immigrants, mostly from China, are showing up. They do not appear to be poor and desperate. Their clothes are clean and their luggage and backpacks appear to be new. Why are Chinese nationals suddenly coming across the southern border? It has been widely noted that most of these men are of military service age. What is China up to?

The border is still open to all who are willing to illegally cross into Texas or Arizona.
