Some celebrities, like Kylie Jenner, experienced pushback when they published a message of support of Israel and deleted the post. Perhaps she isn’t mature enough yet to understand this is no time to be a coward. History will not reflect well on the cowards.
Actor and singer Josh Gad expressed sadness for the deaths in Israel on Threads Saturday. He has been a critic of the Israeli government but is spreading a message of unity now.
“I have no words. I am praying for my many family members in Israel. What a cowardly act,” he wrote. “What we are witnessing in real time right now is unprecedented since the Yom Kippur war. My heart breaks for the families of those who have lost loved ones, and for the hostages who have been taken. What a horrific day.”
On Sunday, Gad said that he was “personally attacked, shamed, unfollowed and threatened” for expressing sympathy for Israeli citizens killed in a surprise attack orchestrated by the Hamas.
“Instead of compassion & humanity, people are treating this as if it’s a FOOTBALL match with two teams when the points scored are dead human bodies. Waving flags around as if they are team jerseys,” he continued. “Somewhere in a basement right now, tied up and terrified are little CHILDREN who have never done anything to hurt a Palestinian. Somewhere on the streets of Gaza are innocent people who are being shelled, because terrorists decided it was best to destroy any opportunity for peace.”
Gad, who said he has also “been critical of the Israeli Government and it’s pattern of occupation and their attacks on innocent Gazans,” added that he was sadden that there isn’t “communal despair” around the current situation in Israel.
Madonna weighed in on social media.
Madonna said the situation in Israel is “devastating” in a statement posted on Instagram, adding that “conflicts can never be resolved with violence” and her heart “goes out to Israel”.
Alongside a graphic video from Israel, she wrote: “Watching all of these families and especially children being herded, assaulted and murdered in the streets is Heartbreaking. Imagine if this was happening to you?? It’s Un-fathomable. Conflicts can never be resolved with violence. Unfortunately Humanity does not understand this Universal truth. Has Never Understood it.
“We live in a World Ravaged by Hate. My heart goes out to Israel. To Families and Homes that have been destroyed. To children who are lost. To Innocent Victims who have Been Killed. To All who are Suffering or who will suffer from this conflict.
“I’m Praying For you. I am aware that this is the work of Hamas and there are many innocent people in Palestine who do not support this terrorist organization. This Tragic attack will only cause more suffering for everyone. Let us all Pray. For Israel. For Peace. For The World [sic].”
Israeli-born American actress Natalie Portman posted support for Israel.
The full message read: “My heart is shattered for the people of Israel. Children, women and the elderly have been murdered and abducted from their own homes. I am in horror at these barbaric acts and my heart is pounding with love and prayer for the families of all affected.”
Jamie Lee Curtis posted the Israeli flag on her Instagram page without comment.
Very vocal progressives Amy Schumer (cousin of Chuck) and Sarah Silverman, both comedians and actresses, reposted the words of an activist who pointed out that those idiots who make excuses for young girls being burned alive happens because they have been taught it is ok to kill Jews, Jews are less valuable than others.
Amy Schumer and Sarah Silverman reshared an Instagram post by attorney and activist Mandana Dayani, which said: “Never in my years as an activist, have I seen other activists, upon seeing footage of little girls being killed and dragged threough streets, immediately find the burning need to go on the internet and justify their deaths. ‘Oh, here [are] all the reasons that girl was burned alive!’
“For complete clarity, thge only reason you do this, is because you have been made to believe that the killing of Jews can even be justified. Becaise every civilization has taught that the life of a Jew is less valuable than your own. It’s the Hitler playbook. Your antisemitism is not unconscious. It is so deeply rooted in your bones and you are so comfortable with it, you are not even able to consider its impact on your friends.”
It’s good to see even the crazies rallying around Israel in this very dangerous time. There is real evil in this world. Hamas is evil. They must be eliminated from the face of the earth.
