Mexico is not our friend. Mexico is not our partner in securing the southern border. The Mayor of Tijuana is lecturing the United States about walls and building bridges. Such arrogance should be mocked, not shown any respect.
Tijuana Mayor Montserrat Caballero installed a 3-ton gray concrete slab of the Berlin Wall just feet from the latest stretch of America’s border wall.
“May this be a lesson to build a society that knocks down walls and builds bridges,” reads the inscription on the Cold War relic attributed to Tijuana Mayor Montserrat Caballero.
The installation, titled “A World Without Walls,” was erected Aug 13. in Friendship Park after Caballero was contacted by the owner of the artifact, Marcos Cline, looking to set it up in a poignant location.
“Why in Tijuana? How many families have shed blood, labor and their lives to get past the wall,” Caballero asked of the US border wall.
“The social and political conflict is different than the Berlin Wall, but it’s a wall at the end of the day. And a wall is always a sphinx that divides and bloodies nations,” the mayor said.
The United States does build bridges, along with the border wall. There are international bridges that connect Mexico and the United States, like the ones in Texas, where people can utilize legal ports of entry. The problem is that the Biden border crisis has produced a humanitarian crisis, as well as a national security crisis. Seven million illegal migrants have been apprehended since Joe Biden took office and that number does not include those who came into the United States at legal ports of entry. It also does not include the ‘gotaways”, the illegal aliens who run from law enforcement along the southern border. They don’t go to Border Patrol to claim asylum. The number of gotaways is 590K so far this year, the number exceeds the number at this time last year.
Border Patrol officials estimate approximately 590,000 migrants got away without being apprehended after illegally crossing the border. This estimate, described as “extremely conservative,” represents about a seven percent increase over the same period last year.
According to a source operating under the umbrella of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol officials estimate nearly 590,000 migrants got away without being apprehended since October 1, 2022. During the same period last year, agents reported approximately 550,000 got-aways.
Mexico is turning a blind eye to drug cartels and human traffickers who control sections of the Texas-Mexico border. Mexican officials are corrupt. None of this is breaking news. Joe Biden has chosen to open the southern border and allow it to remain open through a lack of seriousness in securing the border. It’s a political decision – Democrats see future voters. Texans see property destruction, rising crime, overwhelmed community services, and environmental damage. The amount of trash left behind from the constant flow of illegal aliens is staggering.
So, Tijuana’s mayor is virtue-signaling with a slab of the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall, a symbol of the Cold War and its oppression, was built to keep East Berliners inside their country, as they were not allowed to move freely into West Berlin. The border wall in Texas and parts of Arizona is to secure the U.S. border. Without secure borders, a country does not have sovereignty. The government of Mexico worked to some extent with the previous administration but the Biden administration has failed to produce such cooperation. Why should Mexico worry about stopping the flood of illegal immigrants into the United States if Biden isn’t concerned about it? Many Mexican migrants come to the United States for jobs and send money home. That’s a bonus for the Mexican government. It doesn’t want that to end.
Spare us the lectures, Ms. Mayor. The United States is the most generous country on the face of the earth. More than 7 million illegal immigrants have taken advantage of that spirit of generosity during Biden’s term in office. It’s time to hire an American president who can secure the border and re-establish the rule of law.
