Comedian Dave Chappelle is creating some buzz with his latest remarks on his podcast, “Midnight Miracle.” He is speaking out about the backlash he receive over some comments that were viewed as anti-trans. A common complaint is that such comments will incite violence against trans people yet Chappelle counters that argument by saying that it is the trans community that incites violence.

In July 2022 Chappelle’s show was canceled in a Minneapolis theatre after receiving threats from trans activists. The venue wanted to create a safe space for everyone. His show was moved to another theatre. In the podcast, Chappelle recalled how the protesters who showed up at the second theatre wanted him to say something inflammatory. Protesters allegedly threw eggs at Chappelle fans waiting to see the show. “In a weird way, they had the intention of inciting violence against themselves for publicity,” he said.

His fans were peaceful, it was the protesters who were violent.

“The trans [people] and their surrogates, always say that my jokes are somehow gonna be the root cause of some impending violence that they feel like is inevitable for my jokes,” Chappelle said. “But I gotta tell you, as abrasive as they were, the way they were protesting, throwing eggs at people, throwing barricades, cussing and screaming, [none of my fans] beat ‘em up.”

He said he was upset when the first theatre canceled his show. He was mad about the statement they released about the cancellation.

The theatre has an interesting take on diversity, right? Progressives think diversity only goes one way – their way. Otherwise, other thoughts and opinions, even jokes, must be silenced.

“I was upset. I wasn’t mad that they canceled the show,” he said. “I was mad at the statement they released… You’re sorry? For booking me? What’s there to be sorry about is the position I was taking… I’m not even mad that they take issue with my work. Good, fine. Who cares? What I take issue with is the idea that because they don’t like it, I’m not allowed to say it.”

He continued, “They want to be feared. ‘If you say this, then we will punish you. We’ll come to First Avenue and f*** your show up and we’ll come to the Varsity Theater and f**** your show up.’ And they just don’t get to do that.”

Dave Chappelle isn’t a conservative man. He’s a regular liberal Democrat, so it’s refreshing that when reality bites, he responds as reasonable people do. No one should be trying to ruin comedy. That’s what is happening. Progressives go after the speech they don’t like and deem it hate speech. They do it on social media and now they have begun to do it with live performances. They don’t have the right to kill comedy. The great thing about Chappelle’s comedy is that he is an equal-opportunity offender. He offends everyone. All the great comedians do that. They just let the jokes rip and fall where they may. Then Chappelle started talking about trans people and the progressive left lost its mind. They want to intimidate Chappelle and other comedians like him to stop talking.

Others face backlash when they defend Chappelle or explain his material.

Recently, Chance the Rapper faced backlash for including the Half-Baked actor in his Black Star Line Festival. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the Chicagoan claimed the 49-year-old didn’t mean harm with his jokes and was “shining a light” on Ghana’s anti-LGBTQIA+ climate.

“It’s something that Dave was actually shining a light on,” the Highs and the Lows artist said. “Dave was making a comment about the comedy scene in Ghana when he said, ‘I bet gay jokes go over so well here,’ to which everybody laughed about.”

“And he was making a point to say that in Ghana, you can make jokes about things that are about gay people, about trans people, about a lot of social constructs, just about anything in the world. But you can’t make a comment about the government there.”

I’m sure the protesters would be fine with a routine that trashed evangelical Christians, though, right? Or a private business owner who refused to take business from someone with an alternative lifestyle. That would be applauded by the same hypocrites who organize protests and demand Chappelle be canceled. What delicate creatures that can’t bear to hear someone’s opinion.
