Governor Abbott makes five demands of Biden in letter about border security - will Biden act?

Governor Abbott hand-delivered a letter to Joe Biden when he landed in El Paso on Sunday. In the letter, Abbott included five steps for Biden to take to secure the US-Mexico border. All five of the demands are common sense steps to achieve the goal of drastically slowing the flood of illegal migrants into Texas. Will Biden even bother to look at the list?

If Biden’s performance in office during his first two years is any indication, Biden will brush off the five steps, thinking his way is best. To admit that he must change course and implement different strategies along the border is to admit he was wrong and Biden will not do that. His ego won’t let him. For whatever reason, Biden truly believes he is the smartest person in the room, though he’s never lived up to that belief. In the meantime, residents in border communities continue to look for relief.

These are the five demands in Governor Abbott’s letter to Biden:

You must comply with the many statutes mandating that various categories of aliens ‘shall’ be detained, and end the practice of unlawfully paroling aliens en masse.

You must stop sandbagging the implementation of the Remain-in-Mexico policy and Title 42 expulsions, and fully enforce those measures as the federal courts have ordered you to do.

You must aggressively prosecute illegal entry between ports of entry, and allow ICE to remove illegal immigrants in accordance with existing federal laws.

You must immediately resume construction of the border wall in the State of Texas, using the billions of dollars Congress has appropriated for that purpose.

You must designate the Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

None of those five points look out of the ordinary, do they? As I said, it’s all common sense and would go a long way to secure the border. Money has been appropriated by Congress and it is not being used as appropriated. Biden is anti-wall, we know that, but he did take an ‘unscheduled’ trip to see part of the 18-foot-tall border fence up close and personal. He should at least see what it is he is against before making decisions against it.

Governor Abbott was not invited to join Biden for the rest of his visit so they parted ways at the airport. President Unity didn’t include Republicans in his entourage, not even the Republicans who represent El Paso, like Rep. Tony Gonzales. Gonzales was also told he was not invited to join Biden’s tour of El Paso. Abbott did say that Biden claimed he wants to work with Texas. Those Democrats who did make the cut with the Biden entourage were listed in the Texas Tribune’s report.

Biden’s office said the aim of the trip was to “assess border enforcement operations and meet with local elected officials and community leaders who have been important partners in managing the historic number of migrants fleeing political oppression and gang violence.”

While in El Paso, Biden visited the Bridge of the Americas port of entry — which connects El Paso to Ciudad Juárez for tourists and commercial trade. The president will also visit the El Paso County Migrant Services Center. Biden will be joined by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas; Democratic U.S. Reps. Veronica Escobar of El Paso, Henry Cuellar of Laredo, and Vicente Gonzalez of McAllen; El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser; and El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego.

When asked by reporters what he learned during his trip to El Paso, he said, “They need a lot of resources. We’re going to get it for them.”

Imagine if Biden had bothered to visit the border two years ago as his policies began to go into effect and the Biden border crisis began to ramp up. Or if he had bothered to visit a year ago. Lots of resources have been needed all along and have been requested over and over again, only to be ignored by DHS and the Biden administration. They don’t care. The only reason Biden came to Texas for a three-hour stop on his way to Mexico is because he’s going to announce he is running for re-election in the coming weeks. He knows he has to check off the box that he has visited the southern border. The people in El Paso aren’t stupid. They know what is going on. There is a lot of anger in El Paso, a Democrat-led city, against what is happening to their city, thanks to Biden’s dereliction of duty.
