I guess former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is privy to information that the rest of us are not. Appearing on CNN’s Sunday morning show hosted by Jake Tapper, Patrick was asked about the impeachment of President Trump should Democrats take back control of the House of Representatives in November. He’s good with it, in case you were in doubt. He even thinks there are grounds for impeachment right now.

“Yeah. If the grounds are there, then we should proceed, and I think there’s a lot of basis to believe that the grounds are there,” Patrick said. “But I don’t think that’s the first order of business.”

I wonder what these grounds are, don’t you? Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating potential charges of collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia but to date absolutely nothing has been found along those lines. I am confident in that opinion because otherwise, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) would have leaked the evidence to the press by now.

In an appearance on another Sunday morning show, Schiff did say there is such evidence “in plain sight” when questioned by host Margaret Brennan. So far, no leaks from him, though.

“I want to make sure we’re being precise in our conversation. Can you agree that there has been no evidence of collusion coordination or conspiracy that has been presented thus far between the Trump campaign and Russia?” she said.

“No, I don’t agree with that at all. I think there’s plenty of evidence of collusion or conspiracy in plain sight. Now, that’s a different statement than saying that there’s proof beyond a reasonable doubt of a criminal conspiracy. Bob Mueller will have to determine that,” Schiff said in response.

Schiff is so Trump deranged that he believes the evidence is there, though it isn’t. Patrick seems to fall into the same category. The former governor cushions his dreams of Trump’s impeachment though by saying it shouldn’t be the first item for a new Democratic majority in the House. Wink, wink.

Patrick is being encouraged to throw his hat into the ring for 2020’s presidential election by his old pal Barack Obama. Patrick declared, though, that he’s not quite ready ‘to be a candidate yet.” Yet.

Most of the upper levels of leadership in the Democratic Party are leery of publicly cheering for impeachment hearings, though, as it is likely a sure way to rouse the Republican base and other Trump supporters to get to the polls and vote in November. Patrick separates himself a little from the current crop of Democrat candidates waiting in the wings to declare their candidacies – he doesn’t call for the abolition of ICE, but don’t get too excited. He’s ready to bash the agency as the others do.  He told Tapper “what we have today are the wrong policies and the wrong practices.”

Back in March 2018, Patrick admitted running for president is on his radar. Former members of the Obama administration have also encouraged him to run.

One interesting tidbit from Patrick’s interview on CNN was the question of his work for an investment firm. What investment firm is that, you ask? It’s Bain Capital! Remember how the Democrats howled about former presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s work for Bain Capital? How easily he is able to move into that-was-then-this-is-now territory. Patrick joined the firm in 2015 as he left the governorship of Massachusetts and justifies his involvement with the same firm as Romney by saying Romney hasn’t been there for decades, decades now.” Phew. Good thing he cleared that up, right?
