Feckless UN Remains Feckless

United Nations

We've grown used to seeing UN Secretary-General António Guterres beclown himself in his efforts to undermine the state of Israel while pretending to take a "both sides" attitude toward the recently escalated conflict. You will recall the UN's repeated calls for a ceasefire on "both sides" while Israel was the target of repeated attacks from Hamas, then Hezbollah, and now Iran itself. This week he upped the ante yet again shortly after Iran fired hundreds of missiles into civilian population centers inside of Israel. Guterres condemned the "escalation" of the attacks and demanded a ceasefire yet again. But who does he expect to "cease firing" in this scenario? The country launching unprovoked attacks or the one where roughly one million civilians were sent fleeing to bomb shelters to wait out the assault? (Townhall)

On Tuesday, as reports were coming in of Iran's ballistic missiles hitting Israel, António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the anti-Israel United Nations, posted his demands for a ceasefire.

"I condemn the broadening of the Middle East conflict with escalation after escalation," Guterres posted. "We absolutely need a ceasefire," he also insisted, as if we haven't already heard such a call from the UN so many times before.

Guterres' post has received approximately 8,000 replies taking issue with his demands. Israel's X account also contributed to the over 1,000 quoted reposts, telling Guterres in no uncertain terms that they will not give into his demands.

"We condemn your inability to string together a tweet which holds Iran responsible for firing 181 ballistic missiles at 10 million Israeli civilians," the post fittingly read.

Guterres took his demands to Twitter where he was roundly condemned and mocked.

On the same day, Guterres fretted over the "territorial integrity" of Lebanon. Apparently, seeing Israel strike back covertly at the forces seeking to wipe out civilian populations was a bridge too far for the UN Secretary-General. He insisted that the territorial integrity of Lebanon "be respected." Keep in mind the proven fact that Lebanon is where the terrorists launch the majority of their strikes against Israel. Was he equally worried about the territorial integrity of Israel? It's hard to say, since he never got around to mentioning it.

The United Nations in general and Guterres in particular have made their sympathies clearly known for a long time now. There is no longer a fig leaf left to pull away. The United Nations sides with the Palestinians in these conflicts and all of their chatter about a "two-state solution" doesn't add up to anything more useful than lining for the floor of your bird cage. Each "solution" they offer seeks to weaken Israel and buttress its enemies. It was the UN that wanted to issue an arrest warrant for Bibi Netanyahu while his nation was already under attack. Now that Iran is openly launching advanced missiles against Israel from its own territory, a truly unbiased international organization would be seeking a lasting, just peace in the region. Instead, they continue to parrot the same talking points and pretend to be impartial observers. We should stop flushing money into that decrepit organization and kick them out of New York in the process.
