Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is at it again. Last weekend we saw yet another instance of illegal migrants attacking the NYPD with impunity. On Sunday, two police officers responded to reports of someone recklessly riding a moped through pedestrian traffic. When the officers stopped the rider and ordered him to produce his identification, he claimed not to have any. They informed the rider - who turned out to be an illegal migrant - that he was being placed under arrest, and the man attacked the police. Two other migrants jumped in and attacked the two police officers, kicking and biting them. One threw a moped at one of the cops, leaving him with a contusion and a scratched cornea. Two of the migrants were eventually arrested while the third ran away. The two attackers were brought into court on Monday, but the judge said he "would be consenting to the defendants' release on their own recognizance.” This was done based on the advisement of District Attorney Bragg's office. A pair of migrant thugs who attacked two of New York’s Finest are back on the street after Manhattan prosecutors agreed to cut them loose without bail, The Post has learned.
Brian Joseph, 24, and Jose Gonzalez, 19, were both arrested Sunday after scuffling with cops on traffic patrol on Eighth Avenue shortly after 9:50 p.m. — allegedly biting one officer and hurling a moped at the other, according to law enforcement sources and officials.
But when they were hauled into court on Monday, Manhattan prosecutors agreed to let them walk.
Both of the migrants were given a court date in September. Meanwhile, they are free to go where they please. Bail decisions are supposed to be made based on a defendant's potential threat to the community and how much of a flight risk they pose. These are people who entered the country illegally and then began committing crimes as soon as they found a place to stay in New York. What do you suppose the odds are that they will show up for that hearing in September? They clearly know that the NYPD doesn't have the resources to go hunt down everyone who skips out on a court date.
A spokesperson for the NYPD told reporters that this is yet another case of setting a terrible example for the public. Migrants can openly attack police officers on the streets and be let off almost immediately with a slap on the wrist at most. Another officer described this as the DA's office declaring an open war on cops. “Today they bite and kick a cop and tomorrow they take a shot at cops,” they said. “If there are no consequences they are only encouraging people to attack cops.”
Is it any wonder that the NYPD is still struggling to meet its recruiting goals and winding up short-staffed as a result? Who wants to sign up to put on a uniform and risk their lives protecting the public if this is how the suspects who attack them are treated? There are far easier ways to make a living in the Big Apple that are considerably less dangerous and pay much better. Recruiting officers who are leaving other precincts to come to Manhattan is almost a lost cause because they know in advance how they will be treated when they arrive. So the crime rates remain above average and the streets and the subways are still unsafe for the law-abiding.
Sadly, this is just another day ending in a "Y" in Alvin Bragg's district. Migrants and BLM rioters will be let off without bail for almost any crime short of murdering someone. But let's see one of you go down there and try praying in front of a New York abortion clinic. Do you think you'll be sprung without bail? Good luck with that. They tried to lock Donald Trump up for paying his own legal fees, but there is no obvious penalty for literally assaulting police officers. Escape from New York while you can, folks. The inmates are still running the asylum.
