The antisemitic train in the United States doesn’t seem to be slowing down and could actually be accelerating. The latest nauseating incident took place in Philadelphia on Sunday next door to the Horowitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza. A man was seen spraying a black swastika on the wall of the Verizon building next to the memorial. Jews living in what was formerly known as the City of Brotherly Love already have more than enough reason to be fearful. Regular protests by pro-Hamas, anti-Israel activists feature chants supporting the ethnic cleansing of Jews in the Middle East and threats against Jewish-American citizens here at home. But even for that vile crew, painting a Nazi symbol next to a Holocaust Memorial is a new low. (NBC News)
A swastika was discovered on a wall near Philadelphia’s Holocaust memorial on Sunday, police said.
The antisemitic image was spray-painted on a building adjacent to the Horwitz-Wasserman Holocaust Memorial Plaza, according to the Philadelphia Police Department, which said it immediately launched an investigation.
“The suspect is an unknown male wearing a black mask and a dark jacket (possibly brown) with a stripe across the chest and down the arms,” police said in a press release.
As noted above, the guy who did this was caught on film applying the graffiti. He was wearing a facemask to hide his identity as most of these cowards do, but we know the date, the time, and the location. Surely somebody out there knows who he is. Some sort of reward should be gathered and offered to see if that will loosen the tongues of any of his friends or family members.
Keep in mind that this isn’t a case of “pro-Palestinian” or “pro-peace” activism. The swastika is a symbol of Nazi Germany and the original holocaust. It stands in support of the eradication of the Jewish people. An act like this is intended to instill terror and gin up hatred against a tiny minority of people in this country. Isn’t that the sort of thing that leftists have traditionally claimed to abhor?
The director of the foundation that manages the memorial plaza was upset, but not all that shocked. She told reporters, “This is unfortunately a devastating incident, a very upsetting incident. But it’s no longer a shocking incident, given what we see in America today.” She added that their institutions and people “are no longer safe here.”
That’s a sad assessment indeed, but the people committing these vile acts and attending these protests appear to have no shame. There is no level of depravity they will not sink to while demanding that Israel surrender its right to self-defense. You may recall when they recently desecrated a cemetery for war veterans with pro-Hamas garbage. And that cemetery included the graves of veterans who died fighting the Nazis and trying to free the Jews from the concentration camps. Other examples abound.
This is all simply disgusting and repulsive. And I’m probably just oblivious, but it feels as if it came out of nowhere. During an interview I recently did with one of our radio outlets, the host and I were both expressing shock and saying that we never imagined that we would live to see something like this in America in our lifetimes. But that was clearly an ignorant attitude and the Jews and their allies have been trying to warn us about this for ages. Antisemitism is ancient and deeply embedded in some corners of our culture. It’s always bubbling away under the surface and it only takes a spark to make it erupt yet again. Apparently, the war in Gaza provided that spark.
