Lena Dunham deletes Twitter app after "cyberbullying"

At some point in the last couple of years – obviously when I was otherwise busy – Lena Dunham became a celebrity. And I don’t mean just for her HBO television show which I’ve actually seen. (Hey! You don’t live in my house and I have to share the remote control. Don’t judge me. I’ve also seen The Little Mermaid about 20 times and we don’t even have kids.) She has since written a book which apparently had quite a few people up in arms and others celebrating her for being a really great, er… whatever it is that she does besides that television show. But she was also quite active on Twitter. Heck, she even showed up in my Timeline more times than I could count, generally in the form of retweets or responses from angry conservatives. It’s been an educational experience, and I am not exactly brimming with enthusiasm when I tell you that I now know a lot more about Lena Dunham than I ever could have imagined possible.

That is to say… I know something about her.

In any event, the rest of you folks on Twitter won’t have Lena Dunham to kick around any longer. She’s had enough of your cruel, insensitive mistreatment and won’t be taking it any more.

During an interview with U.S. presenter Ryan Seacrest during the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday (11Jan15), the host asked Dunham whether she would be checking social media for fan reactions to the Girls season four premiere, which aired in America the same night.

Dunham replied, “I deleted Twitter because I’m trying to create a safer space for myself emotionally. People like, threatened my life and told me what a cow I am so I decided I was gonna cut it out… I check it occasionally, but it’s not the same co-dependence Twitter that I once shared…

“It’s the dark side of the Internet. There’s a lot of people I love on Twitter, but unfortunately, you can’t read those without deranged neocons telling you you should be buried under a pile of rocks.”

Here’s a video of the report complete with the interview footage and lots of other pictures of…

Naw, I’m just kidding. I wasn’t about to do that to you. In fact, I would like at least some credit for not only not including the video in this post, but skipping using a picture of her on the front page.

I seriously have nothing else to say about Lena Dunham, so do me a favor and just pretend that I included a few witty comments here. And instead of a Lena Dunham video, here’s my favorite clip involving a bison. I should note that the bison is not “buried under a pile of rocks” by the end of it, but he’s still not having a great day.
