Priorities, Priorities, Pentagon Edition

The military’s infatuation with DEI-style ideology isn’t new. The force has openly commemorated leftists’ rainbow holiday for years, even going as far as using taxpayer money to transport service members to military-sponsored “pride” events.

What defenders of these needless celebrations refuse to acknowledge, however, is that the military’s obsession with LGBT radicalism and other neo-Marxist ideologies is undercutting its overall readiness.

Since Joe Biden assumed the presidency, the military has experienced its worst recruiting crisis since shifting to an all-volunteer force in the early 1970s. Every branch in the service, with the exception of the Marine Corps and Space Force, missed its recruiting targets for the 2023 fiscal year. The Army, Navy, and Air Force missed their goals by roughly 10,000, 7,400, and 2,700 recruits, respectively.

It goes well beyond recruiting numbers, or even force readiness in the personnel sense. Our Navy fleets are rapidly aging out, and we lack the capacity for replacing vessels to properly meet readiness standards. Without an economy oriented to mass production in heavy manufacturing, we would struggle to replace materiel in every branch of the service while at war. This goes beyond the Pentagon, in fact, and demonstrates a lack of real management of national security on a comprehensive basis since the end of the Cold War.

But to this point, Rush Limbaugh always put it best: The proper purpose of a military is to kill people and break things, and that's it. Don't use them unless absolutely necessary, but when you do, let them kill people and break things until the need ends. The purpose of the military is not to have them model your latest trendy Soho cultural agenda items.
