Just after 10 a.m. on Friday, UIC police responded to a silent alarm at Credit Union 1 at 828 South Wolcott, the school’s Medical Sciences Building. Employees at the credit union told police that a man displayed a gun and demanded cash, then escaped in a black four-door SUV parked in front, according to an email sent to the school’s community.

UIC’s email described the robber as “a male 25-30 years old, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall, a stocky build, wearing a black ski mask, black pants, black hoodie, black gloves, carrying a green book bag, and displaying a black handgun.” Although UICPD does not include race in its publicly released suspect descriptions, Chicago police officers were told the robber was Black.

Almost exactly one week earlier, around 11:17 a.m. on May 10, a lone gunman robbed the Credit Union 1 inside the UIC student center, 750 South Halsted. After getting cash, the robber escaped in a white Prius with Illinois plate DL48196.
