The Democrats' War On Civility

PJ Media

I know this week has already seemed like a month, especially for all of you that are affected by the government shutdown now entering its fourth week. But it was just last Saturday that the No Kings rally, a nationwide assembly of some of the most uncivil displays of behavior left-wing society has produced to date in the era of Donald Trump, fizzled.

Whether the signs and chants were profane, anti-Semitic, or whether they were clever, but offensive, what Saturday turned out to be was a small ratio of people compared to the population at large who didn't like losing the election last November, and get the vapors every time President Trump says or does anything.

On MS-Whatever-It-Is-Called-Now, Nicolle Wallace had on Dumb and Dumber actor, Jeff Daniels. Daniels, who would eventually morph into his inner James Taylor on acoustic guitar, began the segment bemoaning the AI videos released by Donald Trump of the President in royal garb waving to the crowd, Queen Elizabeth style, and in another AI clip, Trump flies a fighter jet and drops mud on Harry Sisson and other left-wing attendees of the protests. It's the incivility of it all, Daniels laments.

Did Donald Trump troll the No Kings protesters? You bet, he did. Is it what we would ideally like to see in an executive? No. But that side of Trump was presented to the American people in 2016, again in 2020, and once more in 2024. The brashness of Trump easily won the day against a corrupt Sundowner's patient and a empty-headed lightweight appearing to be juiced up on liquid courage to get through the final 107 days of her political career. Trump's shtick was adjudicated by the American voters, and he was acquitted. Daniels, and the rest of the fever swamp, just can't handle it.

During this interview, Wallace did not bring up, nor did Daniels denounce the "Find better snipers" guy, the Chicago teacher mocking the death of Charlie Kirk, or the kid stabbing the effigy of Donald Trump as being uncivil. The civility demanded by the left is only bestowed on Republicans. And even if Trump had not dropped those videos, if he would have just taken the weekend off at Mar-A-Lago and played a couple rounds of golf, my guess is Daniels and Wallace would have found something else to complain about.

Since the Democrats seem to be pleading for civility while simultaneously swimming in an ocean of incivility, here's a few beams Democrats need to pull out of their own eye before pointing out any splinter Trump may have.

Jen Psaki, former press secretary for Joe Biden and a colleague of Wallace on the same network Daniels appeared to call for civility, was a guest on the I've Had It podcast with Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan. The big takeaway? Psaki believes Vice-President's wife, Usha, is trapped in an abusive marriage.

Domestic abuse is never funny, especially when there's no truth to it in the case of the Vance family. Erika Kirk, Charlie's widow, leaned heavily on Usha for support in the days and weeks after the assassination in Utah. Usha was, and is, a rock. This slander on both J.D. and Usha Vance is repulsive and vile, and most definitely uncivil. But the only reporting you'll see on this, even if Psaki suffers blowback for her insidious comments, will be in the vein of "Right Wing seizes and/or pounces on pundit's call for ending spousal abuse." We'll see if MS-ETC. circles back with Mr. Daniels to see if he's written a new song about strong marriages, and tsk-tsking Psaki's rhetoric.

James Carville, who never was the more civil of Democrats even back in the days of William Jefferson Blythe Clinton, but by today's standards would be a Cotillion teacher, wants this for anyone working in the Trump White House after the term is over on January 20th, 2029.

Ah, the Game of Thrones Walk of Shame treatment. Maybe Carville's desire can be considered civil, because unlike the HBO series, those forced to walk the spitting gauntlet wouldn't have to do so naked.

Senator Cory 'Spartacus' Booker took to the Senate floor on Wednesday, and being there's a lot of available floor time with the country's government being held hostage by Booker and his colleagues, decided to uncork another stemwinder to advocate for the fate of the poor international aquatic drug runners and their four-outboard-powered speedboats being blown to bits by the Pentagon.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, a model of civility and comportment in a public official, proposed this on Monday at a rally.

Lefty radio host Charlamagne Tha God had a less than civil way of describing how he believes Donald Trump is operating within Constitutional bounds.

Robert De Niro, who continues to demonstrate that he's way out of his element without a script to read, was on MS-Something Monday, and had this coarse way of opining on the Department of Justice's indictment brought against Letitia James in New York.

And yet, Jeff Daniels can only seem to get worked up about Trump's AI videos as dipping beneath the floor of civility.

Jeff Merkley, Senator from Oregon, just wrapped up a 22-hour old-fashioned talking filibuster. It was his own one-man version of a No Kings rally without the inflatable costumes. Why did he undertake this step? To keep John Thune and the Republicans from forcing Democrats to vote to keep the shutdown going once again. Merkley literally was holding the Senate hostage from casting a vote to end the Senate holding the government hostage. It's political stupidity squared.

22 hours, watched, statistically speaking, by no one. It will go down as the fourth-longest filibuster in Senate history, at least for now, and not one sentence will be remembered, except, perhaps, by the Senate staff and Capitol Police who had to had to work overtime and overnight unexpectedly for no pay, because Merkley and the Democrats refuse to reopen the government. That doesn't seem like a civil thing to do to civil servants.

Then there's Texas State Rep. Joland Jones, who made this promise to Republicans who get up in her grill, so to speak, with Erin Burnett on CNN.

Stay classy, Democrats.

And finally, do you remember Graham Platner, the Nazi-loving Democrat running for Senate in Maine? He may finally have covered over his offensive tattoo, but his problems have only increased.

So...basically, he was the drill sergeant as well as the supply clerk for Mainetifa? It must have been for a coming civil insurrection, right, Jeff Daniels? A mostly peaceful overthrow?

And this is all from the last couple days. Imagine the rogues' gallery of incivility if I included clips from Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Gavin Newsom, Karen Bass, or any of the dozens upon dozens of examples of Democrats using inflammatory rhetoric to juice up their base and put targets on the backs of law enforcement and Republicans everywhere.

Civility is usually defined as a polite action or expression, but usually applied in an exchange between a group of people or a culture. That means one political party can't demand civility from the other side of the aisle while people in their own party fantasize about the other side's death, including seeing their opponent's children die in their mother's arms for good measure.

I'd love to see this incivility genie get stuffed back into its bottle, but the Republicans are done unilaterally disarming their rhetoric. Conservatives have been demonized for way too long, and it's just not going back to the marquis of Queensbury rules anytime soon. That's why you see so many people cheering Donald Trump on vicariously. And it's why J.D. Vance is galvanizing the GOP primary for 2028 right now. He is combative both online and in media appearances. If the question is hostile, but fair, he'll give as articulate of an answer as can be given. If the question is a garbage question, he won't just call it out for what it is, he'll pay the questioner back rhetorically with interest.

If the Democrats want civility, they need to purge their own bad actors first. It will take a considerable amount of time. It might take years. I'm comfortable letting Republicans govern in the meantime.
