Pay what you owe? How bourgeois. In the coming socialist state, doesn't everyone know that rank will have its privileges, and that the Politburo will rank highest?
Speaking of bourgeois, it turns out that Democratic Socialists have their feet firmly planted in that ground. DSA member Angie Nixon also won the Democrats' nomination to the Senate in Florida, but she also earned enough money on her own to score a spot in the bourgeoisie. However, for all the talk of tax hikes and government confiscation of capital in the DSA agenda, it turns out that Nixon is rather fond of her own capital and resents paying her fair share of it to the government. Especially when the government loaned it to her in the first place, as the Free Beacon explains:
Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon, an avowed Democratic Socialist who owns two homes and raked in at least $270,000 from her jobs and investments last year—in addition to her husband's unpublished income—is lamenting the injustice of having to pay taxes on her outsized income.
Nixon's income, which she detailed in financial disclosures, includes rent from one of her properties, her income as a state representative, her earnings from a Miami consulting firm, and her salary as the director of a nonprofit that works to mobilize black voters. Her income is likely even higher than reported because she is not required to publicly disclose the income earned by her husband, Jarrett Morene, who owns and operates what appears to be a car repair business.
Nixon's personal income in 2025 clocked in at well over five times the median income of the average American worker, yet she failed to set aside enough of her substantial earnings to pay her taxes and repay her student loans. The dues-paying Democratic Socialist reported in her latest disclosure submitted in Florida that, as of Aug. 25, she owes nearly $14,000 in unpaid taxes to the IRS on top of $17,600 in unpaid federal student loans.
Bear in mind that practically every item on the DSA agenda would require a massive tax increase across most income strata, especially the $270,000-level that Nixon occupies. Their socialized medicine policies alone would require massive tax support, but the agenda also includes "publicly owned social housing" for all, reparations for slavery, government-funded family leave, free college, and so on.
At least Nixon's on board with the "free college" plank of the platform. She's just ahead of her time!
Andrew Kerr goes on to note the obvious:
Nixon's unpaid taxes and student loan debts are a drop in the bucket compared with the extraordinary and diversified income she earned in 2025. Still, the Democratic Socialist, who wants to institute a 5 percent annual wealth tax on billionaires, recently complained about how "crazy" it is that the federal government is forcing her to pay her own fair share.
The comments came in a podcast interview conducted two months ago called Hard Wig, Soft Life, with the Nixon episode titled When They Go Low Get Loud. That may be a reference to Nixon's bullhorn obstructionism on the legislative floor during the vote for the new redistricting map. On the other hand, it might just be a reference to Nixon's political personality more generally. The transcript of the conversation looks somewhat incoherent:
Kerr puts Nixon's argument in a somewhat more coherent form:
"Your girl over here is on a payment plan to pay the IRS $12,000 back," Nixon said during a podcast interview in July. "And listen, I ain't made $105 billion, but you making me pay $12,000 to the feds? Like, really? That's what we're doing? And they already took some of the taxes away anyway. I paid over $10,000. It's just, it is crazy."
Ahem. A $12,000 tax bill on income of $270,000 amounts to a tax rate of 4.5%. Presumably Nixon already paid some taxes up front, but if not, she's doing very well on her tax breaks. In fact, compared to the effective tax rates most people in that bracket pay, and using Nixon's own rhetoric, it's fair to say that the government is subsidizing her lifestyle.
The government certainly subsidized her poli-sci degree. Nixon publicly declared in a 2023 Facebook post that she would not ever repay her loans, which, with interest, now amount to nearly $18,000. As Kerr also notes, Nixon has earned income in the six-figure range these years and still has not made any attempt to discharge her debt. Nixon also failed to include her tax and student-loan debts as required in her August disclosure for the Senate, which means she's not just a deadbeat but a scofflaw as well.
This reveals much about Nixon's character, and about the character of DSA activists more generally. They do not want a system of equitable contribution. They want an authoritarian structure that they themselves control to reap all the benefits while contributing nothing at all. The DSA is a movement of deadbeats and scofflaws who will turn on a dime as soon as they get power to seize the property of others and punish anyone who dissents. That is the character of every socialist regime, and Nixon is its poster girl in this cycle.
