NBC Host to Dr. Jill: Come On, Ma'am

Just how badly has Jill Biden miscalculated her campaign to sell a book – and yet another round of the Sharp As a Tack™ narrative? Not even NBC wants to let it go unchallenged, even on its softest news program. This morning, the former First Lady tried pushing the line from her new memoir on the Today show that Joe's debate performance was so out of character that Jill thought he might have been having a stroke.

Craig Melvin's reaction? Come on, ma'am:

Jill Biden: "Well, Craig, look at it from my point of view. So, I'm watching, just like everybody else was, scared to death, like, what is going on. He gets off the stage, I see, he appears to be okay. He says to me, Jill, I really, in other words, messed up, didn't I? And I said, yes, you did. And so, we get off -- and I know we're going into another event, or we have two more to do. And my mind is racing. What do I say to him? What do I say to him? I'm his wife. I've got to lift him up. So, we go to the next event, and I'm thinking saying, what do I say that will lift him up that is true? I want to say things that are true. So, I said, you answered every question. My mind was racing."

Melvin: "That's a pretty low bar."

Biden: "Well -- so, I had to sort of lift him up. I'm his wife. I'm not going to get out on the stage there and say, Joe, you really screwed that up. I mean -- and we have all of our supporters, you know, so that's who we are. I had to support him. I couldn't come out and -- I mean, really, publicly, say, Joe, you did a terrible job in a debate?"

That's a pretty low bar is a pretty good summation of the Biden Regency. And, for that matter, a good summation of the Protection Racket Media during the Biden Regency, too.

Jill Biden must have expected her book to get coverage from that version of the mainstream media. News orgs no longer feel the need to circle wagons around the Bidens any longer, however, especially when they're still trying to claim that the emperor's new clothes are real and spectacular. Jill's new modified limited hangout is patently absurd, and it's impossible to just let it slide. If Jill really thought Joe was having a stroke, she would have interrupted the debate and sought medical attention. For that matter, so would the White House medical team, and likely CNN too. No one interrupted the broadcast because no one was surprised by Joe's performance, not even the audience.

In truth, Joe Biden has never been Sharp As a Tack™, but he had been coherent and cogent until about a decade ago. The decline was already evident by the 2020 primaries, if not glaringly obvious, but the Bidens relied on the COVID pandemic to use a low-visibility strategy against Donald Trump to keep it under wraps. It fell apart in the final debate, the last 30 minutes of which had Biden sundowning almost as badly as he did in the June 2024 debate. The Bidens and the Protection Racket Media conspired to cover it up, but Biden's decline was obvious from his public appearances almost the entirety of his "presidency." And Jill wanted to push Joe into a second term, for equally obvious motivations – to use Joe as a conduit to power for Jill, Hunter, and the other conspirators in the fraud.

The book and the new narrative is an attempt to gaslight people about the nature of the fraud. This time, though, the Bidens' co-conspirators in the media are not signing up for another fraud.

Neither are former Biden aides, Axios' Alex Thompson reported yesterday. Those former co-conspirators and Democrat Party operatives resent the timing of Jill's revisionist narrative, as well as the intellectual insult it represents:

Why it matters: Most Democratic Party leaders don't want to talk about Joe Biden's presidency, but the Bidens are making that difficult. Both are writing books and the former president plans to make campaign stops ahead of the November midterms.

State of play: Jill Biden's book opens up a wound for many Democrats who believe the Bidens damaged their credibility with voters by insisting Joe Biden was fit enough to run for reelection in 2024 when he wasn't, and by pushing the party to publicly defend his fitness.

  • Many Democrats feel the Bidens have yet to explain themselves, and that Jill Biden's new book is part of a larger pattern of looking for excuses and other people to blame.

What they're saying: Several Biden aides — including some of the most loyal ones — are fuming about the former first lady's reemergence.

Aides told Thompson that it "feels so disingenuous," and that both the Bidens and Kamala Harris want to "blame everyone but themselves for the loss." One passage in particular has them fuming, as Thompson puts it:

Other former Biden aides fumed that she was simultaneously insisting her husband had not declined, while also suggesting she may have missed it.

  • "Had he grown too old for the job and I hadn't noticed? I didn't think so, but could I be objective enough to be sure?" she writes in the new book.

Ahem. The people closest to Biden would have known most about his condition. This is somewhat akin to a mob boss testifying that he didn't realize his underlings were criminals. The cover-up benefited Jilll and Hunter Biden most, and they would have been at the top of the conspiracy to defraud the American electorate. Jill's framing of this makes it sound as though the White House aides covered it up without her knowledge, while claiming to be an engaged and protective spouse, not to mention a key campaign voice.

Come on, ma'am.
