What stories topped your priority lists this week? Both Duane and I agree that Donald Trump has an outstanding week at sea, so to speak. He imposed a blockade on Iran Sunday, and by Friday morning, the IRGC junta had backed down on its attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz. How much that came from the Iranians, and how much it may have come from the Pakistanis, remained to be seen as we went to tape, but the oil markets responded positively and prices fell by $10 a barrel in the morning session. Trump insisted that Iran also agreed to surrender its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, and at least for now, it looks like the war may come to an end entirely on Trump's terms.
The news looked bright in Lebanon, too. Duane and I discussed the main difference between the talks that took place in Washington this week and the previous agreements between Lebanon and Israel. The main difference? Trump and the demonstration of American will and power in the Middle East the last two months. Lebanon may finally be liberated from its Iranian occupation.
