Wednesday's Final Word

Mike Mike Mike Mike Mike ... what tab is it? ...

Former Vice President Kamala Harris was warned in the closing weeks of her campaign that her strategy was not working, but her aides declined to course correct, according to a new book.

In a series of memos from Maria Comella, a Republican political strategist who has advised Democrats including former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Comella told Harris campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon that the then-vice president was not providing voters with a “reason” to cast a ballot for her.

Ed: This hits the nail precisely on the head. And the reason is because they didn't have a reason to offer for casting a ballot for the incompetent Harris. They thought Trump Derangement Syndrome was enough.

Ed: To be even clearer -- CBS News is corrupt, and they couldn't afford to have it proven in court. They also suffered from TDS, which made their already extant political activism even more acute. CBS News stopped performing journalism decades ago, except in a few accidental instances.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris' aide implored the co-hosts of "The View" to try asking Harris a second time about what she would have done differently from Joe Biden during the October 2024 interview on the ABC show, according to a new book.

"As you showed the famous clip there on ‘The View,' she gives that answer, and our book reports her aides backstage, head in their hands. They try to get the hosts to actually do the question again, to hopefully revise her answer, which she never does," Josh Dawsey of the Wall Street Journal told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Tuesday, explaining that Harris was unwilling to differentiate herself from Biden.

Ed: Again, she and most of the others in the campaign thought that all she had to do was 'disqualify' Trump as "a threat to democracy" and win by default. To once again quote one of my favorite philosophers, Mad Dog Tannen: "You thought wrong, dude." All the rest of the embarrassing outcomes for Democrats from the 2024 cycle are the products of their bubble-thinking that Trump was somehow too unpopular to compete. And that includes the decision to stand Biden up for a second term despite his obvious senility.

Ed: And you guys don't think I have a sense of humor!

The former Democratic presidential candidate’s appearance on “Subway Takes,” a popular online series hosted by Kareem Rahma where guests admit their favorite hot take, was filmed in Summer 2024 but never saw the light of day, the presenter said.

“Her take was really confusing and weird, not good, and so [we] mutually agreed we shouldn’t publish it,” Rahma told Forbes reporter Steven Bertoni in an interview posted on TikTok on Monday. ...

The interview was so painful that Rahma feared that if it had aired, he would be blamed for Harris losing the 2024 presidential election, he told Bertoni.

Ed: The take was "bacon as a spice," which might not have been so bad except that ... Rahma is Muslim. Oopsie! Sunny Hostin ended up taking the blame instead for her question on The View, at least briefly, even though it was a softball question that any VP running to succeed her president would expect to get asked.

Ed: This is too funny. Imagine sending Doug Emhoff to get Taylor Swift on a stage with Kamala Harris. Why not ask Beyoncé to connect up with Swift? But yes, the real problem here wasn't celebrity endorsements but connections to American voters.

“It’s time for every Democratic leader to get on board,” New York co-director Jasmine Gripper told POLITICO, pointing out that Mamdani is supported by fellow state assembly members from across the Democratic spectrum. “The Mamdani tent is big enough for everyone. Any leader who is serious about building a base of energized voters and wins would be smart to join us.”

Additionally, Our Revolution, founded after Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign, has been circulating a petition saying, “Tell Dem leaders: Don’t sabotage Mamdani.” It had 30,000 signatures as of Tuesday night.

Ed: I suspect they will eventually endorse Mamdani. But when they do, Republicans will pull out every Mamdani quote they can find in every House district and Senatorial race and tell voters that the Democrat Party now stands for radical socialism, anti-Semitism, and jihad.

Ed: It's been five months since Newsom promised his "Marshall plan" for LA. Meanwhile, only around a hundred permits have been issued to begin rebuilding the thousands of homes lost in the Palisades and Alta Dena.

In last week’s big, semi-beautiful bill, gone is the 50-year experiment in fuel-economy regulation as the fines for noncompliance are reduced to $0. The Transportation Department was already obliged to admit the program produced no net benefit. GM and other carmakers stopped playing along and increasingly were willing to miss the targets even at the risk of being labeled lawbreakers. ...

Barring any nonsense from the courts, thus ends one of the most fatuous, misguided or unguided regulatory enterprises of government. Its ending won’t have any effect on climate, but it will mean car companies can go back to making cars that are profitable to the builders and desirable to the public.

The coming years should also be great for wind and solar. Electricity demand is booming. The gas turbines that power a global industry are in short supply. So why does the renewables lobby predict doom from the sunsetting of federal tax credits? This is like saying the only lemonade stand in the desert needs a tax break just as a thirsty caravan pulls up.

Ed: When your lemonade sells for $20 a cup in an honest market -- ie, without 'parental' subsidies -- the caravan will keep going to the nearest convenience store. While I agree with the overall thrust of this essay, the problem is that so-called 'green' renewables really AREN'T competitive without government subsidies and market interventions.

Ed: This is a dereliction of duty. First off, ICE is not going to interrupt Masses to arrest illegal aliens; they are well aware how that would look and what kind of reaction it would get. Second, the Mass is a holy obligation to worship the Lord, not something to be discarded for political purposes. Shame on this bishop.

ICE also arrested a MS-13 associate he was living with, 30-year-old Rene Saul Escobar Ochoa, who is also wanted in El Salvador for allegedly giving orders to fellow gang members to commit multiple murders.

Both men are illegal aliens who had embedded themselves in the Omaha area. Fox is told the kingpin is not being identified due to the sensitivity of an ongoing investigation.

Video of both arrests provided courtesy of ICE.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons’ statement to FOX:

“When ICE agents move in to make an arrest, it is extremely important that the public not interfere. The misinformation, and sometimes blatant lies, being spread around the country could result in someone stepping into a federal operation and suddenly finding themselves face-to-face with a killer who has nothing to lose. Our ICE officers and agents are protecting your neighborhoods, even when you don’t know the threat is there, so either support them, or get out of the way.”
