The Great Debate debate: The Amiable Skeptics featuring Adam Baldwin!

What a debacle! After the disastrous Fox Business debate this week, what should Republicans do to prevent another hacktastic night? Should they do any more debates at all? Adam Baldwin and I debate the debate, discuss Stephen Kruiser’s theory of deliberate sabotage at the RNC, and wonder when Republicans will seek new leadership … in all senses of the word!

Welcome back to our VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

A few highlights from today’s episode:

  • “I kept saying, why isn’t Brit Hume doing this?” Adam says about his reaction during the debate. “He would command the respect of all of the of all of the participants. And I don’t think that the moderators had the respect. And then they started throwing out stupid questions. They ignored really important issues.”
  • “Why wasn’t Maria Bartiromo the Fox Business Channel moderator here,” I wondered. “Maria Bartiromo, is actually on Fox Businesss Channel. Dana Perino is more Fox News [Channel]. … Bartiromo is actually much more aligned with conservo-populist sentiment.”
  • Did Ronna McDaniel set this up on purpose to help out Donald Trump, as Kruiser suggests? “Trump may have given her a couple of gold bars to hold her over because he didn’t want to give her any fiat currency,” Adam jokes in a reference to Gold Bar Bob Menendez, “but he’s probably not giving away too many gold bars now that his license has been revoked in New York. But I digress,” Adam says, laughing it off.
  • Both of us agree that the Fox Business questions were designed to sucker the candidates into personal attacks, and it worked on some of them. “Everything in the mind of producers, and everything in the mind of script writers, becomes a soap opera. So talk about the drapes, that just is conflict, and it’ll be good TV,” Adam says. “Whereas we’re not interested in that, we want to know how are you going to turn this ship of state around?”

Be sure to watch it all, and extend the conversation in the comments!
