It's not just the candle the Left is targeting: The Amiable Skeptics featuring Adam Baldwin!

“It’s better to light just one little candle,” Adam Baldwin sings, “than to stumble around in the dark.” Why did Adam channel Perry Como? We discuss the effort by the Biden administration to snuff out the Eucharistic candle in a Catholic hospital, part of long war on religious liberty and expression by the Left. It’s an example of “the tyrannical rule of the regulators in the Biden regime,” Adam says, but it’s more than that as well. It is yet another example of the socialist/Marxist Left attempting to displace God altogether and replace it with The State, and The State shall not suffer any God before it.

Welcome back to our VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

This is so absurd, I argue, that it can’t be about a legitimate concern over fire risk — a hypothetical that has never come to pass in centuries of using Eucharistic candles in churches and hospitals. “This is so petty, so picayune,” I say, “that it speaks to a larger effort by the Biden administration and the Left to marginalize and compartmentalize religious faith, and to put an end to the 1st Amendment right to freedom of religious expression in public life.”

“Remember,” Adam replies, “it’s not about them physically snuffing out the literal flame it’s about them figuratively snuffing out the flame of Christ. They want to smother belief in a higher power in its cradle, in its infancy, when they can and whenever and wherever they can.”

That is the hallmark of Marxism, I say in agreement. “Marxism will perfect man, right? The so called New Man in Socialism They used to call it the Soviet Man when the Soviets were still around,” I say, which is why Marxism requires a belief that “there is no God. It’s completely antithetical to the idea of God or religious faith anyway, because it is itself a religious faith and it competes with all of the other religious faiths.”

It’s not just the candle that they’re targeting.

Be sure to watch it all — there’s plenty more — and stand by on Monday for our discussion of violence, the social compact, and why we’re likely to see more vigilantism. Join this conversation in the comments!
