“News of the virus broke in January 2020,” Peggy Noonan writes in the WSJ today, “and almost from day one authorities seemed to steer the public away from the obvious.” Seems is a vast understatement. Government agencies, social-media platforms, and news organizations did everything they could to actively suppress discussion of the lab-leak COVID origin theory despite both common sense and science suggesting strongly that it was the correct explanation. As Adam Baldwin and I ask in today’s show, will we ever see any accountability for that censorship and McCarthyism? And will this finally put a stake through the heart of “expertocracy”?

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel Serenity, Chuck, and The Last Ship.
“The left hates that Covid may be from a lab leak,” Adam declares, picking up on David Strom’s post from this week, because “their experts lose their credentials. Their credentialism totem is crumbling before their eyes. They can’t let that happen.”
“It’s also the media’s credentialism, right?” I reply. “Because the media was insisting that the lab leak theory had been debunked. I mean, this was the subject of numerous fact checks and then, you know, the CDC got involved with the social media outlets to suppress this discussion of what was really a common sense thing.”
And for what purpose did the media intervene to stop discussion of this common-sense theory? “The money that flows through the grant processes,” Adam says, but that’s not all. The people who made the decision to restart gain-of-function research and manipulate grant money — Francis Collins and Anthony Fauci — would have to answer for that decision if in fact that research created the pandemic. They have tried mightily to avoid that — and the media has white-knighted for them for three years rather than hold them accountable.
