What stories topped your priority lists this week? David Strom pinch-hit for Duane Patterson this morning, and we had plenty of options to discuss. For David, the top stories were A Tale Of Two Trips: Biden finally showing up in Kyiv and Buttigieg finally showing up in East Palestine, Ohio. Both trips had value, but the administration handled them ineptly. The White House “really stepped on themselves” on Biden’s trip, David argues, “by implying that, you know, doing the Hillary Clinton thing, implying that he was under fire and he was standing tall, when they had already informed Putin that he was going to be there. … Now we’re talking about that instead of the message they wanted to have out there — which is of course that Biden’s standing with Zelensky.”

Welcome to our new VIP feature for Hot Air as well as a members-only show in the Hughniverse! Duane Patterson and I now are doing a Week in Review show for Friday evenings, exclusive to members in both platforms. Duane has been the Generalissimo behind the Hugh Hewitt Show for more than two decades, and we have partnered on weekly commentary since 2007.
For me, though, the big story this week was the exposure of mainstream media as nothing more than an Orwellian propaganda amplifier for the Left. Two major metastudies in the past week debunked assumptions undergirding government policies and media-imposed “conventional wisdom” on the COVID-19 pandemic. “Since last Friday,” I argue, “we’ve seen it in the Lancet study on actually acquired immunity being at least as good, if not better and longer lasting. Then on Tuesday,” I continue, the Cochrane study concluded that mask mandates “didn’t have any impact whatsoever. And the lead author of this is particularly incensed about the lack of attention this got because Cochran held it up for seven months.”
Put that together with the essay at The Daily Sceptic about narrative journalism replacing real reporting on climate change, I say, and it’s no wonder why the credibility of the news industry is at all-time lows.
We have a lot of fun on these topics and much more. Be sure to watch, and join the conversation in the comments!
