Why the media fears Musk and free and open debate: The Amiable Skeptics featuring Adam Baldwin!

What touched off a full-on freakout in the media over a renewed Elon Musk purchase of Twitter? It’s the loss of control over the public square, Adam argues in today’s episode of The Amiable Skeptics. “The ‘misinformation’ game is how the media control the debate,” Adam points out, and Musk threatens to break up the censorship consortium of Big Tech, social-media platforms, and the federal government that plays the game.

“It is dangerous,” Adam continues, “and we saw that with Zuckerberg when he was on with Joe Rogan, admitt[ing] to the FBI coming in and basically saying, Nice platform you got here — be a shame you know if something happened to it, unless you cooperate with our anti Trump directives. He admitted to that — and where’s the accountability in the media?” Adam asks.  “Well, they’re not going to hold Zuckerberg accountable. They’re not going to hold the FBI accountable or the DoJ because they’re on the same team.”

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

Both Adam and I remain amiably skeptical of wholesale changes if Musk takes over, but at least that allows for the possibility of breaking up the elite consortium attempting to control debate. Moderation shouldn’t be onerous in the first place, I argue, especially with the tools users already have in place to manage their own experience. “That to me is how you structure” platforms for ” free and open debate. It’s free will, if you want to be part of that discussion, be part of it. If you don’t want to be part of that discussion, that’s fine, but don’t keep other people from having that discussion.”

You can join the discussion in our comments! The next episode will get posted on Monday, and it’s a barn-burner on Bros and being made to care. Stay tuned!
