For some reason, I have been developing an obsession with crime stories.
Not the stories about the crimes, or about the inner life of criminals. Criminals are evil, and evil is a constant in human life, so they don't really interest me. No podcast or documentary about criminals or their crimes grabs my attention because the root of all crimes stems from three or four basic, universal motivations: hate, lust, greed, and fear. Throw in mental illness if you like, because it sure is up there.

What has caught my attention is the rapid expansion of liberal tolerance for and even embrace of criminality. The motivation for any particular crime is uninteresting because you can guess the reason pretty quickly; why anybody would sympathize with a rapist, drug dealer, gang member, wife beater, or murderer requires puzzling out.
And why would the #1 enemy of Democrats, including prosecutors, be law enforcement?

But, objectively speaking, there is no doubt that liberals have come to love criminals and criminality. And that love is, many times, being returned.

Democrats are now hiring criminals to "prevent" crime, and Jasmine Crockett's security guy was a long-time felon, so nobody should be surprised that he drew a weapon when police tried to arrest him and got himself killed.

Any supposed "moderation" from the left on immigration is fake. The grassroots continues to believe that every foreign criminal has the inalienable right to come to America and kill Americans.
Democrats have been pushing "ban the box" legislation that makes it illegal to do background checks on employees, so felons and sex offenders are getting a free pass and winding up in positions of responsibility.

They have no interest in taking any kind of action, because they don't think any of it is a big deal. Criminals have a right to be criminals, don't get in their way, and who are we to judge.
This is why their neighborhoods are war zones.
This is also the central philosophical idea behind progressive criminal justice reforms. Crime is not a moral outrage, but rather a natural phenomenon, like the weather or earthquakes.
You don't get angry at a tornado, do you? You can't jail a thunderstorm, right? Why would your reaction to robbery or murder be any different?
That's what we're up against here.

Here in Minneapolis, all the storm and strife against ICE was driven by the desire of leftists to protect rapists and murderers from the horror of deportation. ICE had a list, and was systematically arresting violent criminals, and for that crime they were assaulted, threatened, had nurses and waitresses plotting to poison them, and were vilified by the politicians here.

Democrats appear to see tolerance of crime as a form of reparations. They impose differential sentences on criminals of color and they refuse to prosecute some people for crimes because of their skin color. Criminals can randomly assault people and be put back on the streets, if arrested at all, in hours.

Democrats don't believe that some minorities or any illegal aliens have moral agency—they just do these things—and that any attempt to impose consequences on criminal behavior by them is racism or driven by a "phobia."

The truth is, we are all born barbarians, and become civilized through socialization. Parents socialize children, and the environment gives signals to us about what is and is not acceptable. That's why you can tell where people are from without hearing them speak. Observe them long enough and you can say "they are French," or "German," or "American."
We are socializing vast swathes of our population to be uncivilized, as a form of reparations. Don't "colonize" people!
In Great Britain and some parts of Europe, Muslim rapists go without punishment because "that's their culture."
And so it is, because we enable it. Punish people for crime and you get less of it. Fail to do so, you get more.
Democrats want more, and they are getting it.
