Our schools, famously, cannot accomplish their most basic tasks: teaching kids to read, write, or do basic math.
They are, in fact, doing worse and worse by the year. The trend is undeniable, and even worse, the baseline level from which they are now falling was pretty awful.

The caption on their Instagram post reads:
“Learning our rights. Practicing using our voices … Today, KMS Elementary Students explored peaceful protest as a powerful part of our shared culture and democracy … Our students marched peacefully throughout our school, sharing messages they believe in and practicing what it means to stand up, speak collectively, and listen deeply.”
Signs read:
- “Choose kindness”
- “We support immigrants”
- “We keep us safe”
- “KMS loves immigrants”
It is true that a small subset of kids get an excellent education, even in public schools, or at least an adequate one, but almost all of these kids come from privileged homes with parents who watch their kids' educations like hawks. In most cases, the variable that mattered was the parents' persistence, not the schools' excellence.

There are, no doubt, many reasons why the education system is failing so badly, but one of them surely is that schools do not put as much energy into teaching reading and math skills as much as they should. What they do put a lot of effort into is "social and emotional learning" and social justice.

Students at Free State High School in Kansas say the school advertised the anti-ICE student protest and assured students they wouldn’t face any consequences for staging a walkout in middle of school to scream about ICE.
The school eve gave out hand warmers so they can comfortably hold their anti-ICE and anti-Trump signs and teachers even joined them in the walk-out.
This school is clearly just a left-wing indoctrination camp which will turn your kid into a left-wing activist.

Time at school should be used to improve academic learning. It's the reason our country established public education and why we spend so much taxpayer money on it.
We've all seen the photographs of classrooms plastered with propaganda, transgender "pride" flags, and activist literature. But what most people still don't understand is that the messages are not just passive symbols and lessons on the wall, but part of the formal or informal curriculum in many schools.

We all know that schools are actively involved in "transing" kids without notifying parents, providing alternate clothing while at school, giving away breast binders, and referring to medical professionals who will provide services for teenagers without informing parents. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. The entire school environment is politicized, and getting increasingly so.

Schools will take kids to protests, or let it be known that there will be no punishment for skipping classes to participate in them. This is now common.

The idea is that kids should become active citizens, but of course, they should only be active for the "right" causes. Climate, alphabet issues, immigration...you know the score.

The presidents of the two largest teachers' unions of the country are both primarily political activists, for whom educating kids is barely a distraction. Randi Weingarten is the more famous of the two, despite the NEA being the larger union, because she is more media hungry. Both were members of the Democratic National Committee for years—actually helping govern the party—and both were leading the charge to keep schools closed throughout the pandemic.

They managed to snag tens of billions of dollars during the pandemic, and almost none of it went to making schools more resilient to the virus. It mostly went to increasing salaries and hiring more teachers for a declining student population.

There is barely a pretense anymore that schools are for educating students in anything other than politics. The Chicago Teachers Union, a member of the AFT, is explicitly Marxist and during COVID argued that opening schools was a racist plot by capitalists. Schools are firing teachers for not being leftist enough, and proud of doing so.

Coincidence? I think not.
