Let me be clear: I don't actually think that Abigail Spanberger is a murderous psychopath. She just plays one on TV, or stayed in a Holiday Inn last night.
With that said, I think that she is demonstrating before our eyes that a large chunk of the political class has sociopathic tendencies--an indifference to decency that in most cases they hide well enough, but which can, under unusual circumstances can cripple them.
Think John Edwards, who was infinitely smoother than Spanberger, but when confronted with a challenge for which he was unprepared, he crumbled. Spanberger is, by any reasonable standard, average, at best, and she has proven to be very brittle. Her sociopathy is exposed for all to see, which in a decent world would actually matter.

Yeah, well, in the real world, it apparently doesn't, just as Biden's obvious corruption and mental infirmity didn't matter in the least. Donald Trump was beyond the pale when he used crude locker room talk, and a legitimate object of manifest political persecution because he was of the wrong class, but obvious ethical vacuity is no barrier to widespread support.
It is now within the realm of possibility that Jay Jones will lose his race, although according to the smart money, he still has a more than 40% chance of winning despite being a psychopath. That speaks very poorly of the Democrats in Virginia.
But what does it say about them that Spanberger is, according to the same betters, almost a lock to win the governor's race despite her inability to answer a simple question about her support for Jay Jones? What about that smirk? What about the fact that Jones has, as far as I can tell, not lost a single endorsement despite his manifest evil nature?
For God's sake, the gun control people still back him. I guess his support for murdering the Right™ people is a bonus for them. Democrats, after all, go out of their way to make murdering babies at any stage of development up until birth a red line for their support. Why not include Republicans who are out of the womb in the kill list?
On Polymarket, the real money is no longer focused on whether Spanberger will win--she is at 90% chance of victory--but by how much. The predictions are for a blowout, and the competition is to guess by how much.
46% are guessing by 9 points or more, and 68% think that the margin will be 6 points or more.

I am past caring about Abigail Spanberger or her fellow politicians and what they think. I never thought much of their ethical timbre, so I am more fascinated by their incompetence at hiding their sociopathy than that they are morally vacant narcissists. Usually, when sociopaths climb the ladder, it is because they are able to create a convincing aura of competence and caring, and what is striking is how pathetically low-quality these people are.
I guess all the good sociopaths are now CEOs.

But what does it say about the voters who are lining up behind these obviously awful people and who will dutifully carry them to victory? It is appalling to me. Viscerally--not in my head, but in my gut--it hurts. People who get all weepy-eyed about foreign students celebrating the murder of innocents in Israel and calling for the destruction of Western Civilization, getting deported, will turn around and vote for Jay Jones and Abigail Spanberger because they represent "kindness" or something.
Hamas supporters and human traffickers being sent home appalls them, but they will elect a man to run an entire state's law enforcement while fantasizing about killing people he dislikes. Killing their CHILDREN and watching a mother hold them as they die.
As I wrote the other day, this depresses me. Not in an abstract way, but it makes me physically ill when I think about it. Just as it makes me ill that there are lots of people who secretly have doubts about sterilizing and mutilating children who will fight to continue the practice out of party loyalty.
I know people who get seriously emotional about federal government employees being laid off--seriously upset at the idea--who shrug when blue collar workers lose their jobs over ridiculous net zero policies.
It's bizarre. I don't get it. It's like the Democratic Party is a god to whom they must sacrifice human beings to.
I have a touch of hope that Virginians will wake up and elect Winsome Sears, but I fear the smart money is right. Sears is pro-life, and I have seen the social media campaign warning that sacrificing babies might end if she is elected. Since human sacrifice is an important rite in the high church of leftism, while shooting your political enemies is only a minor sin, the Democrats will stick with their sociopaths.
They know who they are, what they are, how they think, and even that they are as intellectually vacant as they are morally, and it doesn't matter. They elected a vegetable in Joe Biden, were enthusiastic for the midwit Kamala, revere the lush Nancy Pelosi, think Gavin Newsom is awesome, so even if Spanberger is at best mediocre and without a moral bone in her body, she's their gal.
