'Original Sin' Is the New Hotness. I Find That Depressing

Grok/David Strom

Earlier today, Ed wrote a great piece about one of the key revelations in Jake Tapper's and Alex Thompson's new book, Original Sin

After years of being gaslit by Pravda Media and their lying "sources" that Joe Biden was fit as a fiddle, we have been fed the "revelation" that Biden was so decrepit that his doctor and family wanted to rush him into a wheelchair...after the 2024 election.

Big shock, that. Right? Biden? Decrepit? What a cheap fake!

The book is getting the "all hype, all the time" treatment for obvious reasons. First, it does have some juicy details that round out a story any sane person already had the gist of, and second--most importantly--it comes from Pravda superstars, and hyping the book will gain anybody who praises it social capital to put in the bank should they ever need a favor from Tapper or Thompson.

So, in come the rave reviews, written by "journalists" who helped Bidenworld sell the hoax that Joe Biden was a physical dynamo and sharper than he has ever been.

As with the COVID lies as they get exposed, the very people who shoved those lies down our throats are pretending that they were skeptics all along, had nothing to do with pushing the lies, and are now brave truth-tellers for "discovering" obvious truths which they helped cover up when it mattered.

Tapper is an anchor for CNN (and also served as a moderator for the presidential debate); Thompson is a national political correspondent for Axios. In an authors’ note, they explain that they interviewed approximately 200 people, including high-level insiders, “some of whom may never acknowledge speaking to us but all of whom know the truth within these pages.”

The result is a damning, step-by-step account of how the people closest to a stubborn, aging president enabled his quixotic resolve to run for a second term. The authors trace the deluge of trouble that flowed from Biden’s original sin: the sidelining of Vice President Kamala Harris; the attacks on journalists (like Thompson) who deigned to report on worries about Biden’s apparent fatigue and mental state; an American public lacking clear communication from the president and left to twist in the wind. “It was an abomination,” one source told the authors. “He stole an election from the Democratic Party; he stole it from the American people.”

This blistering charge is attributed to “a prominent Democratic strategist” who also “publicly defended Biden.” In “Original Sin,” the reasons given for saying nice things in public about the president are legion. Some Democrats, especially those who didn’t see the president that often, relied on his surrogates for reassurance about his condition (“He’s fine, he’s fine, he’s fine”); others were wary of giving ammunition to the Trump campaign, warning that he was an existential threat to the country. Tapper and Thompson are scornful of such rationales: “For those who tried to justify the behavior described here because of the threat of a second Trump term, those fears should have shocked them into reality, not away from it.”

Some people feel vindicated now that the truth is coming out. I just feel depressed.

Why? Because the liars who are producing these "now it can be told" books will get credit for uncovering the lies they helped propagate and get rich off doing so. Awards will be given, glowing reviews will be showered on the hoaxers, and the Biden aides they quote will remain sources and even become commentators and "journalists" despite having been exposed as liars.

In General Pete Worden's famous quip about NASA, the establishment is a "self-licking ice cream cone." The only purpose it serves is to enjoy itself. (Pete Worden used to throw me and my siblings up into the air when he came over to our house in the 1970s; he was  brilliant and fun to be around.)

There is no more frustrating genre of books, aside from those written about astrology or ancient aliens, than "now it can be told" books. The former because they sell nonsense as fact, the latter because they sell facts that the authors should have told us when they matter as deep revelations they just discovered after serious research.

It is true that few people knew of Biden's need for a wheelchair, but every single one of us knew he was decrepit and knew that people like Jake Tapper were lying to us about him. Now Tapper is getting "attaboys" and will make a mint sharing tidbits about Biden that he covered up when he was "reporting" on him over the years.

Does anybody believe that Tapper believed Biden's inability to speak was due to a "stutter?" I don't, and if it really IS true, then Tapper should be drummed out of the business. Anybody who believed that line is barely sentient enough to breathe.

Tapper trashed anybody who questioned Biden's coherence back when it mattered. Now he calls letting Biden run again the "Original sin."

It's tiresome. It's frustrating.

It's depressing. There is no justice on this mortal plane.
