BBC: Oops. A Minor Mistake

Townhall Media

It was a small mistake made by the BBC.

Hardly worth mentioning. The fog of war and all that. It happens. Nothing to see here. Move along.

The BBC is a serious news source and takes its responsibility to provide accurate information seriously.

So you should forgive them for making the minor error of telling the world that Israel was “targeting” medical staff and Arab speakers when they were clearing al Shifa Hospital of Hamas terrorists. It is plausible, after all, that Israel decided to go into the hospital with the intention of killing all doctors and Arabs, right?

The BBC, which has spent the past month being a Western spokesman for the Hamas terrorists, just naturally assumed that Israel went into the hospital to commit a massacre against innocents. Unlike Hamas, this is their modus operandi. Along with indiscriminate murder, rapes, beheadings, and all sorts of atrocities.

Oops. Maybe not. Maybe Israel was escorting medical personnel and Arabic speakers into the hospital to ensure that the patients at the hospital were going to get the best medical treatment possible.

It really is almost the same thing, really. Think about it.

That the BBC could air this report–a total distortion of a report from Reuters that said the opposite of what the BBC reported–shows just how biased they are in their view of Israel and Hamas. They take Hamas’ word on everything, and even when provided accurate third-party reports from a news source they trust–Reuters–they read it in the worst possible and obviously distorted way possible.

Now I doubt the BBC actually meant to air something that was so demonstrably false. After all, it harms their reputation and gives commentators like me a big fat soft target to attack them as they so richly deserve. Rather, they just hate Israel and automatically assume the worst of Israel. They are so full of hate for Israel that they couldn’t even read a report in any way other than Israel committing an atrocity–a war crime.

No doubt Hamas and Iran will play this false report on repeat, ignoring the BBC’s not quite groveling enough “apology.” It makes for juicy propaganda, and the lie will spread around the world at light speed, while the truth will likely never see the light of day in places where it is unwelcome.

The case for relying on the MSM is that they are careful and vet their sources. Unlike propagandists they are fair and objective, striving to avoid any misinformation.

What bollocks. The BBC loved the idea that they could accuse Israel of a war crime and didn’t bother to ensure that they even read a news report accurately before spreading a lie around the world.

This is how the MSM often works. They have a narrative and pound square pegs into round holes. Sometimes they know they are lying, sometimes they are just so blinded by ideology that they fail to see what is going on.

Probably this is a case of the latter. As I said, this is an embarrassment of major proportions, because this is an obvious gift to their enemies.

Of course, it was also a gift to Hamas, too. They certainly have no problem with that.
