What "Pride" looks like in a school

I hope that we can all agree that no kid should be bullied. It happens all the time, for every sort of reason, and unfortunately, bullying will always be a part of life as a kid.

But in a better world, bullying wouldn’t happen.

So the push for inclusion and empathy is not, per se, a bad thing. Done right it is part of the civilizing mission of parents and society.

Getting it right is the hard part–you can’t be so over the top that kids don’t learn how to stick up for themselves, nor can you be so lax that any powerful or popular kid can get away with murder.

And above all, you can’t use anti-bullying as an excuse to bully kids into mindless compliance with any sort of agenda. Or rather, you can and schools often do, but doing so is just another form of bullying.

Want to see what that looks like? How about an example of ideological bullying from St. Matthew’s School, based in St. John’s, Newfoundland?

Newfoundland is not exactly a highly urbanized and liberal part of Canada. Everything is named after a saint, as you can see in the school’s name and the school’s town. It is more blue-collar than white, with mining being the major industry, and fishing being a key component of the province’s economy. It is more like West Virginia than New York–only smaller in population and more remote from everything.

Newfoundland was the focus of evangelization efforts of the Anglican Church from its very founding, and schools that are now public have Anglican roots. The Church was extraordinarily influential in a way that was far less true in most of Canada, and perhaps that is related to its proximity to the UK and its geographic separation from English Canada. Quebec–a formerly French and still French-speaking part of Canada was an alien land with religious traditions vastly different and largely hostile to Newfoundland’s.

St John’s is about as remote as it gets while still being populated enough to count in Canada. One would expect it to have cultural traditions more deeply rooted in its own history than in Justin Trudeau’s cultural Marxism.

Yet even there, kids cannot escape the ideological bullying that has come to characterize Canada

St. Joh’s Pride Day was a wonder to behold. Kids were treated to a school decorated to the child with not only Pride propaganda but lots of transgender-affirming materials. To be clear, we are talking about an elementary school with children as young as 6 years old being indoctrinated into an ideology that is all about sexual preferences and the most anti-tradition and anti-religion madness that exists today.

I have no familiarity with recent cultural trends in Newfoundland, so perhaps the residents have truly embraced this Brave New World where chopping kids to bits is the highest good, but I sincerely doubt it.

Rather, this all comes from the top, where the entire education system has been corrupted by politicians and bureaucrats so far disconnected from the values of the parents whose children they are supposed to serve that all this madness is considered a positive influence.

It is surprising to me that one can find a drag queen in Newfoundland. Just who, precisely, goes to drag shows in a vast province with half a million people in an area that is approaching twice the size of Great Britain? But they found one to sing to children. At least he was dressed.

It is provincial bureaucrats and, of course, the left-wing teachers and administrators who are so dedicated to indoctrinating children into what amounts to a cult. If an Anglican or Catholic student expressed that he felt bullied into rejecting his religious views by all the “Pride” he would no doubt be punished or given counseling, yet all this “Pride” is supposed to be an anti-bullying campaign promoting tolerance and acceptance.

It is about neither. It is ideological grooming, and failure to embrace the madness is considered grounds for oppression and reeducation.

The corruption of our elite institutions–and while not strictly elite, public schools are intended to indoctrinate kids into the values of the elite–is basically complete.

When Newfoundland now looks like this, is there a corner of Canada that doesn’t?

President Biden and his minions plan this for our future, which is why the federal government is putting in place rules to require schools in every state requiring the affirmation this ideology. The intent is to overrule state laws that limit the reach of this ideology in local schools. School lunch programs and other federal funding will soon be contingent on putting pornography into the schools, and pushing gender ideology will become required by federal law.

It is insane, but our future will look like this.
