It is a rainy, chilly Sunday here in Minnesota.
Living in Minneapolis in 2023 this is likely a good thing. For the past few days, I kept hearing gunshots and sirens through my open windows, which I suppose is the price one pays for trying to enjoy the beautiful temperatures with which we are temporarily blessed in Minnesota’s spring. Soon enough the brutal heat and humidity will scorch the land, and I can once again shut out the sounds of crime in my neighborhood.
With the rain, the young thugs will be inside playing Grand Theft Auto rather than outside acting it out in the real world. A bit of a breather, even for a day, is a good thing.
We may be living through a slow-motion apocalypse, but even that has its upsides. The absurdity of life in the 2020s provides more than enough grist for the humor mill, and that is what Sunday Smiles is all about. Laughing through the apocalypse, as Andrew Klavan likes to say.
