Pride: comply or else

Ah, the good ol’ days. I remember them well.

Hidden in the mists of time, there once was a land where everybody was urged to live together in harmony. A place where race, gender, sexual preference, and national origin were deemed to be irrelevant to one’s acceptance in society. Love was love, back then, and nobody’s business.

Well, maybe not. We always had disagreements, but this was the vision sold to us in order to expand the social acceptability of the Alphabet people. And it worked. Most people accept the idea that what people do with their private parts should, indeed, be private.

But now tolerance is an evil thing. One must not only accept, but embrace and celebrate others’ sexuality. In fact, failing to be attracted to trans-men and -women is “phobic,” and not flying the freak flag should get you deported to another land.

That is the conclusion of both CBC and ESPN analysts who are deeply, deeply offended by an Orthodox Christian’s refusal to wear a rainbow jersey on the NHL’s Pride Day. It was a grave offense against humanity itself, and the offender should be sent back to Russia to fight and die on the Ukrainian front.

I am not kidding.

Here’s the backstory:

Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov cited his Russian Orthodox religion as the reason he did not participate in pregame warmups when the team wore Pride-themed jerseys and used sticks wrapped in rainbow Pride tape.

The 26-year-old Provorov didn’t take part in the pregame skate with his teammates before their game against Anaheim on Tuesday night, when the Flyers celebrated their annual Pride night in celebration and support of the LGBTQ community. He played nearly 23 minutes in Philadelphia’s 5-2 victory.

“I respect everybody’s choices,” Provorov said after the game. “My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion. That’s all I’m going to say.”

Provorov declined to answer follow-up questions about his decision.

Flyers coach John Tortorella said Provorov “was true to himself and to his religion.”

“It’s one thing I respect about Provy, he’s always true to himself,” Tortorella said.

Respecting everybody’s choices isn’t good enough though. One must affirm, embrace, and celebrate others’ Pride in their sexual desires and gender choices. If somebody identifies as a 18-month old girl and walks around peeing in one’s diaper, that too must be celebrated because people are being true to themselves or something.

What drivel.

Respect and embrace go only one way, because this has nothing to do with principles of freedom and identity; it is a pure power play by a suddenly powerful cultural group. It is, in fact, raw authoritarianism on display. Failure to comply with the dictates of a tiny minority deserves, at the very least, a social and economic death sentence. And perhaps a real one as well.

Freedom of conscience used to be a bedrock principle, upon which America was built. But America today is understood to be the font of all evil in the world, because freedom itself (and, of course, religion) is simply a mean of oppression. Unless you believe the right things or are the right sort of person, in which case you get to dictate to the rest of us.

We are to bow, to grovel, to beg for absolution. To where what they want when they want, regardless of our desires or beliefs. This is totalitarian to its core, and must be recognized as such.

School teachers demand the right to indoctrinate children, sportscasters demand the firing of dissenters. Stalin would be proud.

Many decent liberals, and they do exist, still believe this is fringe. It is not. It is everywhere and it is taking over our culture. People really do get canceled, losing their livelihoods to the Alphabet mob.

There are liberals taking up the cause, and they too are subject to relentless harassment. A few prosper by striking out on their own, but there are many more of whom you have never heard who are crushed under the jackboots of the Left. For every Bari Weiss and J.K. Rowling, whose talents are extraordinary, there are hundreds or thousands of ordinary people who cannot fight back.

We need a mass movement to succeed, if such a thing is possible. They are coming for your children, your churches, your job, and your ability to speak. You can be silent and just take it, or take your society back from the tyrants.
