How Late Night TV's Insane Bias Actually Hurts the Left

Townhall Media

Late-night activists exist to do one thing today - promote Democrats.

Period.

Comedy? Well, that matters, too, but the talking points come first. It's undeniable, with the exception of Bill Maher, who still seeks out the funny as well as the satirical elements.

Toward that end, the Kimmels and Stewarts of the late-night landscape attempt to help the Democrats in two key ways. They attack anyone running against them, and they ensure audiences never learn the very worst of their preferred party.

Wait ... Graham Platner had a Nazi tattoo? For HOW long?

There's another side to their handiwork, one that gets far less attention. These late-night clowns are actually hurting their own party. Here's how.

Think about President Joe Biden. We all knew, sadly, that age had caught up to him during his single term in office. Democrats would have been in a far better position to defeat Donald Trump had Biden left the 2024 presidential campaign much earlier than he did.

That might have happened if Stephen Colbert, Jimmel, and friends had told the truth about Biden's decline. Those clips could have gone viral, and their hard-Left audiences would have realized that Biden had to go ASAP.

Instead, Biden clung to power as diehard Democrats denied what they saw in front of their eyes ... until that disastrous Presidential debate. That left the party scrambling to install a Plan B candidate. Vice President Kamala Harris proved to be the only option, and she was hardly fit for the job.

See how that works?

Now, consider how late-night clowns handled Rep. Jasmine Crockett. The Texas Democrat is a farcical figure, from her endless "code-switching" to her ignorant behavior. Remember how she "Googled" the name Jeffrey Epstein to attack the GOP, smearing innocent Americans who happened to have the same name as the late pedophile?

That shtick should have launched endless monologue jokes. Instead, late-night clowns ignored it. Now, Crockett is sharing ghoulish opinions on the Karmelo Anthony verdict, views that should have her booted from polite society.

Instead, Crockett will continue to serve as a Democratic talking head after she leaves office, damaging her party's brand with every appearance. That wouldn't be possible if Seth Meyers or John Oliver told their liberal audiences the truth about Crockett.

See how that works?

Now, it's Graham Platner's turn.

The Maine Democrat's list of scandals would make William Magear "Boss" Tweed blush. And we learn even more by the time you finish reading this paragraph.

That's just a partial list. But, by and large, late-night TV has avoided these scandals. When "The Daily Show's" Jon Stewart met Platner face-to-face, he smothered his flaws and promoted his political chances.

The same program brought up Platner's latest infidelity charges, but mostly to segue to a cartoonishly misleading Republican candidate, Colorado's Victor Marx.

Had late-night teed off of Platner, as any satirical comedian should given his flaws, he might have had to step down rather than face Republican Susan Collins in the midterm elections.

Now, the GOP will have month after month to remind Maine voters who Platner really is. And that doesn't include any new scandals that may break over the next few weeks.

Kimmel et al are Democrats' best friends. Sometimes, a friend would be better off telling the truth.
