Welcome back to our VIP video series "Off the Beaten Path," featuring my friend Christian Toto of Hollywood in Toto! Christian and I start off our week by discussing stories and ideas that may fly under our radar, in culture, politics, sports, and more. Plus, Christian previews his latest podcast at HiT.
Has Hollywood's "Bluesky bubble" gotten so bad that even people on the Left are complaining? Christian and Ed discuss sharp criticism from Bill Maher and Billy Bob Thornton regarding award shows and progressive epistemic closure. That brings us to the embarrassing flop of Paramount's latest entry in the Star Trek universe, Starfleet Academy, which has received critical acclaim and audience derision. This comes at the same time that Kathleen Kennedy has hung up her IP-demolishing run at Disney. Woke is still not over, apparently, especially not in theater, which has reverted all the way back to the 16th century when it comes to casting 16th-century roles. Finally, we discuss efforts to tell new stories in creative ways, and Ed explains why he is so encouraged by Moses the Black.
