Is it not perfectly obvious here that she means Trump’s critics accused *him* of treason during the Russiagate probe, not that she’s accusing *them* of treason?
Sarah Sanders: "They literally accused the President of the United States of being an agent for a foreign government. That's equivalent to treason. Thats punishable by death in this country." pic.twitter.com/nz5fsKTW7F

When you read a transcript of what she said, the identity of the “treasonous” party might seem ambiguous. When you watch, it isn’t. And yet, because partisanship in 2019 requires an endless supply of bad faith and willful misunderstanding, hundreds of people on social media who actually did watch the clip are in a lather about the White House supposedly claiming Russiagate true believers are traitors.
Right, right, it’s not news that social media is populated by morons. But what’s the New York Post’s excuse?
Huckabee Sanders: Mueller probe accusations ‘equal to treason’
White House spokesman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday that media figures and Democrats who accused President Trump of working with Russia were guilty of treason — and could face the death penalty.
“They are literally, the media and Democrats have called the president an agent of a foreign government. That is an accusation equal to treason, which is punishable by death in this country,” she said on NBC’s “Today” show.
Again, for those who never quite made it through fourth grade: She’s noting that it was Trump who was accused by some of his critics of the capital offense of treason. She wants you to be outraged on his behalf now that he’s been cleared of collusion. Instead, if only due to psychological reflex, some anti-Trumpers insist upon reading this in a way that makes her the victim.
Anyway, just wanted to set the record straight. It’s ridiculous when Trump’s critics falsely accuse the White House of lightly tossing around accusations as grave as treas– [record scratch]
