Sunday morning talking heads

Pity John Kelly and James Mattis, who were booked this morning expecting they’d be talking about Manchester and Trump’s trip abroad and instead will have to explain away Jared Kushner’s bright idea to use Russian diplomatic facilities to talk to Moscow. Mattis will be on “Face the Nation” while Kelly will drop by “This Week,” “Meet the Press,” and “Fox News Sunday.” Expect Kelly to also be asked just how badly he was hoping to scare the sh*t out of people with this comment on Friday morning.

If I’m not mistaken, this is the third straight week that no one from Trump’s political team will be on the Sunday shows to face questions. No Pence, no Conway, no Priebus, no Spicer, no Sarah Huckabee Sanders, no Mike Dubke, and of course Steve Bannon and Kushner don’t do TV interviews. (Of those eight, I believe the only one still traveling with Trump on his foreign trip as of Friday was Spicer. The rest are back in D.C. and available.) Cabinet officers have appeared this month and H.R. McMaster was on one of the shows last week to answer the accusation that Trump disclosed sensitive info about ISIS to Russia, but the White House seems to have given up on running its communications people out there to, er, communicate. No wonder the president wants a shake-up. The full line-up is at the AP.
