Today, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement held a hearing. The express purpose of the session was to explore how the sanctuary policies of specific states - Colorado, California, and Maryland - were putting the interests of illegal aliens ahead of the safety and security of the citizens who lived there.
One of the invited witnesses was a man named Marcus Coleman, whom many may not remember right off the bat until they see him and his precious daughter, Dalilah, again, in this clip from February's State of the Union.
As President Trump explained briefly during that memorable evening, Dalilah had been a passenger in a slow-moving car making its way through a CA construction zone when a semi-truck driven by an illegal alien smashed into it at a speed of at least 60 mph.

The little girl's injuries were catastrophic, to the point where her parents were told she might never eat again, never mind being able to walk or talk.
She was in a coma for three weeks.
...Coleman's daughter Dalilah suffered a fractured skull, broken femur and traumatic brain injury in a 2024 California crash caused by an illegal immigrant from India who had obtained a commercial driver's license in the state. Coleman told lawmakers he's stopped truck driving, is pinching pennies and raising nine children — and he holds every one of them responsible.
President Trump used the SOTU to urge, after noting that the majority of illegal aliens cannot read or speak English nor understand the most basic road and hazard signs, that lawmakers pass what he called 'Dalilah's Law' - legislation that would bar any state from granting a commercial driver's license (CDL) to illegal aliens.
The fight to pass that law goes on. There have been some victories, but passing a national statute faces many obstacles from entrenched Democratic interests.
Coleman is an indefatigable campaigner for it.
...Now, seven years old, Dalilah relearned how to eat and speak.
President Donald Trump invited Delilah and her father, Marcus Coleman, to his State of the Union address earlier this year. Trump encouraged lawmakers to pass Dalilah's Law, which cracks down on CDL requirements.
Marcus and Dalilah joined The National News Desk to discuss the status of that law, their family's advocacy and their daughter's recovery.
We received a lot of positive feedback, to be honest with you. There's there's some hurdles that we're running through. There are some things that they're trying to incorporate into Dalilah's law, which are kind of putting a standstill to it at the moment. But we haven't received a lot of negative feedback from, the Republican Party right now," Coleman said.Outside of codifying Delilah's law at the national level, the family is setting up a meeting with the governor of Florida, where they plan to introduce the Dalilah standard, "which will give each state their opportunity to have a version of the Dalilah law as a state bill, which will give them the capacity to revoke and suspend."
Marcus said the family is meeting with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis after California Gov. Gavin Newsom "never acknowledged" his family.
I haven't received anything from him. The only thing that I received from him was, I wanna say about a year and a half ago, and it was basically just blaming the federal government for the driver's license that was there," Marcus said.Marcus, who is a truck driver himself, said he was glad the Trump administration is ramping up CDL regulations. The Trump administration revoked 20,000 illegal CDLs and 20,000 truckers were put out of service for not meeting English proficiency rules.
Today he sat in a chair before the House Subcommittee, and my gracious.
It would be hard to imagine a more impassioned, articulate, heartbreaking, wickedly effective, and totally eviscerating testimony than that which Marcus Coleman gave today.

Jayapal looked like she had swallowed a prune whole, and Raskin squirmed like he had a bug up his drawers.
It's a thing of beauty, and because it's from the heart of a man who lives with the result of their policies every day, it was devastating to watch.
And not only because of what harms befell his daughter, but because, as he tells the committee, his wife did it the right way.
She is an immigrant and managed to do everything legally. Why could she and then they not expect anyone else to have to?
Coleman also pointed to his wife — a legal immigrant — as proof the system works when people follow it.

Mr. Coleman's five minutes or so were tremendously moving and unbelievably effective. I swear I can hear the gasps from X every time another person watches the snippets or his entire testimony. He is so controlled and confrontational, with a seriousness of purpose and ultimate moral authority that Democrats on the committee simply cannot twist, as is their wont.
They have no answer for his truths because they are them.
And the Coleman family is living them.
What a miracle his little girl is, that she is able to sit on her mommy's lap to witness her dad defend his family so brilliantly and with such love.
The Dalilah Law had been languishing, but a few weeks ago it got another boost, as a Pennsylvania representative pledged to revive the effort.
Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Mike Kelly today renewed his support for Dalilah’s Law, legislation that would strengthen commercial driver’s l;icense requirements and help prevent unqualified drivers from operating commercial vehicles on American highways.
Dalilah’s Law is named in honor of Dalilah Coleman, who was 5 years old in June of. 2024 when she was struck by an 18-wheel tractor-trailer driven by an illegal immigrant. The crash left Dalilah with a traumatic brain injury, skull fractures, a broken femur, and other serious injuries.
Kelly's renewed push comes ahead of the first anniversary of an Aug. 18, 2025, crash on the Florida Turnpike that killed three people. The driver, an illegal immigrant who had received a CDL in California, made an unlawful U-turn despite clearly marked signs prohibiting the maneuver.
After today's testimony from Dalilah's father, a truck driver himself, with a wife who did it the right way, and now caring for a daughter he nearly lost thanks to those Sanctuary policies, combined with the astonishing numbers coming out of stepped-up, combined DOT, ICE, DHS, and CBP enforcement actions?
I do think the pressure will be building to get that passed.
Let the Democrats squirm explaining why they are only sorry when cameras are rolling.
