Yesterday morning, Ed's very first piece to start the day was about how the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the largest union representing federal workers, had publicly said 'Enough.' Even more telling, their comments were directed to Democrats, the very party that has been the beneficiary of decades of AFGE largesse and indulgences.

This main constituency has also been on the losing end of the Democrats' rejection of targeted Republican efforts to at least pay essential federal workers and the military during the Schumer Shutdown.
If you're not furloughed and at work as you should be, but not getting paid, it doesn't matter a whit to Democrats. You'll notice how Politico doesn't exactly SAY Democrats are the ones who tanked paying those essential workers - they let you figure it out through the numbers.
The Senate on Thursday rejected a plan to pay active-duty members of the military and select government workers for the duration of the federal funding lapse.
It’s the latest gambit from Republican senators to coax Democrats to the table amid the partisan shutdown standoff — and put Democrats on record against paying active-duty members of the military.
Lawmakers voted 54-45 against advancing legislation from Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), which would keep paychecks flowing to the troops and some federal employees who are not furloughed during the shutdown. Three Democrats broke rank to support the effort: Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock of Georgia and Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania.
Federal employees are guaranteed back pay once the government reopens, but Johnson’s bill would aim to ease the burden for those who are working without pay in the meantime.

Democrats appear to be unmoved by fresh demands from the largest federal employees’ union to reopen the government, a sign that the shutdown stalemate between lawmakers will continue as government workers increasingly feel the pain during the process.
It’s the latest example of how pressure points have not had the power to bring an end to the current shutdown, which is already the second longest in US history with no end in sight. Over one million federal workers are going unpaid as the impasse drags on and some are turning to food pantries.
Democrats were quick to say they care about the plight of federal workers and what the union has to say. But that doesn’t change the fact that most remain firmly dug in on the position that they won’t provide the votes to reopen the government unless their concerns over the rising costs of health care are met.
...“It has a lot of impact, and they’ve been our friends and we’ve worked with them over the years,” [Sen Dick] Durbin told reporters on Monday, adding that he has talked to representatives with the union and recognizes that they’re in “a terrible mess” representing so many federal employees who are missing paychecks and facing threats to their jobs.
