Tiny Mediterranean island w/ pop of 6K now clobbered by 10K "migrants" & counting

Welcome to the wee little bit of Italian rock – only 7 miles long – between Tunisia and Sicily known as “Lampedusa.”

Pope Francis, who has yet to open even St Peter’s Square to help share the burden he recently urged to rest of Europe to keep sucking up, hasn’t made many friends in Italy with his one way exhortations to welcome the hordes.

I saw one report that out of the 11,000 who arrived last week, there were 4 – FOUR – women. That was it.

The European Union is expending as little effort as possible both to stop the invasion itself and assist Italy in coping with the enormous influx of tens of thousands of NOT women and children. Personally, I think part of the EU calculation is based on collapsing Meloni’s government. The Brussels crowd is not fond of her, and neither is the WEF/Davos bunch. They ostracize and marginalize Meloni at every opportunity, as well as – along with the American media, frankly – smearing her as “far-right” as often as they can slip it into a report or description.

There’s nothing subtle or that might tear at the heart strings about single, young males swarming into the country for purely economic reasons vice “asylum.” Particularly illegals whom a French journalist says are protected by the EU aide workers in maintaining the deception.

Two weeks ago, there was a little bit of hurried theater dressing done for Presidents Meloni and Von der Leyen’s visit..

The European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, has visited a migrant reception centre on the Italian island of Lampedusa, after the country’s prime minister called for EU help with small boat arrivals.

More than 8,000 migrants have arrived on the island over the past three days.

PM Giorgia Meloni says Italy is being placed under “unsustainable pressure”.

Ms von der Leyen acknowledged on Sunday that the issue was “a European challenge and needs a European answer”.

At a news conference with Ms Meloni, she praised the people of Lampedusa for the support they had given to migrants, who she said had arrived on the island “simply because of its location”.

She pledged to increase support to transfer migrants out of Lampedusa as well as stepping up efforts against people smugglers who enabled dangerous and illegal journeys.

The problem could not be solved by Italy alone, Ms Meloni said. It was currently affecting “the borders, the frontier countries” but would soon involve all of the EU states, she said.

…so the European Union commission president could make appropriate noises of concern while doing essentially nothing to help Italy out. Von der Leyen might have smelled an offensive odor, or gotten her shoes dirty in the squalor visible in the videos before the sprucing up.

Can’t have that.

“…We’re tired of politicians coming here and finding everything clean and orderly. And then it starts over and over again…”

True to the prediction of the disgusted resident interviewed in the video, it ratcheted up immediately. Only the weather had stopped boats packed with illegals from coming across. Once calmer seas hit, a virtual invasion flotilla set out from Tunisia, headed for one place only.

CBS News did a visit to the same shelter before the latest influx hit, and made sure to emphasize the “terrible trip” the migrants had faced. And how the Italian “far-right” government was doing everything it could to “make things difficult” for these unfortunates. Erecting “roadblocks” to keep them from swarming over the entire island at will. Imagine trying to protect your isolated little home from an overwhelming, unending wave of foreign invaders.

The nerve, CBS says. How dare you.

More than 8,000 people from North Africa have arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa in the last week. That’s more than the island’s population. Migrants could be escaping economic and social turbulence in places like Tunisia, Libya and Sudan. The spike of people has overwhelmed the island’s resources. The United Nations refugee agency says it’s vital that people be relocated. “It’s imperative to move people off the island because the resources there, the capacity, is so limited,” said UNHCR spokesperson Matthew Saltmarsh. He also says that people arriving on the island were traumatized and in need of medical care. “It is hard to identify a single factor behind this recent spike in migrant arrivals on Lampedusa,” Saltmarsh said. #Italy #Lampedusa #Migrants

Particularly galling in the face of the invasion is the German government’s participation in facilitating it. Where there have been no funds arriving from Germany to Italy to help offset the cost of seeing to the hordes – and apparently never will be – the Germans are insisting that their responsible portion of the on-going drama is covered by their rescue efforts in the Med.

Yeah.

You see, there are 8 German government sponsored NGOs (non-governmental orgs) operating massive “rescue” and “humanitarian assistance” vessels in the open water between Lampedusa and the North African coast. These boats patrol those waters, scoop up the people on distressed vessels, and dump them – NOT back in Tunisia/Libya – but on the Italian island, which just happens to be a further distance from where they picked them up in most cases.

There ya go. They’re “saving” them from drowning, which costs quite a bit, so it’s on the Italians to pick up the slack from there.

“Saving them” and dumping them on Italy’s tiny island, when it’s just as close if not closer in most instances to repatriate them? It’s only 61 nm between Tunisian ports and the dot that is Lampedusa in the middle of all that water.

But that’s NEVER what the German NGOs do. They dump them all on Italian soil – boatload after boatload.

The German government was in a bit of a snit this weekend. They’ve been ignoring Meloni and protests from Italian officials, along with the videos exploding on X concerning the crisis they’ve been helping along.

But this weekend, another guy noticed what was happening and publicly took note of the direct part Chancellor Scholz’s government was playing in it.

That seemed to sting a little, because the German governent sure didn’t ignore it.

Talk about a pissy answer back to Elon’s tweet. And I told you earlier what their excuse is. They put it right there, in a virtue signaling snit fit.

WE’RE SAVING LIVES

No, they’re not.

They wouldn’t be out there at all if it wasn’t working for them and they hate getting called out on the blatant BS.

Being exposed is not very diplomatic.

Sub-Saharan Africa is emptying out, belching it’s single, male problems towards Europe and, for whatever reasons, the Germans and EU hierarchy are onboard with it happening.
