Hunter Biden's trial in Delaware began on Monday morning. The first order of business was to pick a jury and that happened by day's end.
From a pool of 250 prospective jurors, 12 jurors and four alternates were chosen, including a former Secret Service employee. Several of the jurors said they have family members or close friends with histories of substance abuse. One man seated on the jury said he was “an acquaintance with the first lady” and he had met Joe Biden at several events.
Questions posed to the prospective jurors centered around guns and drug abuse. That is the focus of the trial - it is being called Hunter's gun trial. He is accused of lying on the paperwork when he purchased a gun in Delaware.
U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika, a Trump appointee, is presiding over the trial. She swore in the jurors Monday afternoon. Hunter is on trial for three felony charges. He tried to purchase a firearm in 2018 while allegedly addicted to drugs. Allegedly he checked the box on the paperwork that he was not addicted to drugs. In other words, he is alleged to have falsified paperwork.
Hunter pleaded not guilty last September after he was indicted by special counsel David Weiss. This is Hunter's first criminal trial.
Here's the thing - Hunter's parents are trying to sway the jury. Bold opinion? I don't think so. Joe Biden had a hush-hush meeting with Hunter's former girlfriend, the widow of his brother, Beau, last week. Allegedly Demented Joe visited her because the anniversary of Beau's death was coming up. That was the story when he was caught. Never mind that the president has not visited her in previous years. He just happened to when she is scheduled to be a witness in Hunter's trial. She allegedly tossed his handgun in the trash behind a restaurant near a school.
Old Joe is said to be committed to speaking with Hunter each day, perhaps several times a day, as the trial goes forth. First Lady Jill was in the courtroom on Monday. So was his sister, Ashley. Other family members were reported to be there, too.
What's the big deal, you say? It was very unusual for Jill to be there for jury selection. She, as first lady, represents the White House. It was inappropriate. The trial won't start until Tuesday. It is not a coincidence that Joe Biden remained in Delaware at his beach mansion on Monday instead of returning to the White House. I think the presence of Joe and Jill was to influence the jury.
It's like a form of intimidation toward the jury. We're watching you.
Joe Biden posted on X that he is the president but he is also a father.

The president isn't just another father concerned about his son. Hunter Biden is a 53-year-old man, not a wayward teenager or young man who has never seen the inside of a courtroom. Hunter's wife was with him. Neither of his parents, who live in the White House, should have been anywhere near the courthouse on Monday.
Miranda Devine has the same ideas about Joe and Jilly from Philly hovering around to send a message to any potential opponents of Team Biden. She calls it wise-guy messaging.
Joe Biden’s looming presence in the strange small city leaves nobody in any doubt of the message he is sending to Delaware special counsel David Weiss, the prosecutors, the judge, and the jury pool being chosen Monday: You mess with my son, you mess with me.
It’s all very subtle, in a flagrant way, much like Joe’s impromptu visit to Hallie Biden, the widow of Beau and former lover of Hunter, just nine days before his son’s trial, at which she is the star witness for the prosecution.
Devine went on to write about the frequent sightings of father and son together over the last two weeks. There was a video of a first - Hunter riding a bike behind The Big Guy on Saturday in Rehoboth. Of all the togetherness seen lately, the most notable is Hunter's attendance at the White House state dinner in May for the president of Kenya. Attorney General Merrick Garland was there. It was the second state dinner where both Hunter and Garland were at the same event. Nothing to see here. Just move along.
Remember when Biden campaigned on returning to normal? He was going to bring dignity back to the White House. He lied about it all. Biden is the worst president in my lifetime. The people around him are incompetent.
Joe Biden says he will not talk about Hunter's trial as it is going on. He has in the past, though. He has declared his son's innocence several times in the media.
The Democrats like to say that no one is above the law. That's because they have been using lawfare against Donald Trump in hopes of pulling Joe Biden across the finish line in November.
Neither Joe nor Jill had anything to say when Hunter was in a courtroom in Arkansas because he was being sued by his baby's mama. The grandchild that Joe and Jill refused to acknowledge until they could no longer do so. Jill wasn't in that courtroom.
This is exactly what it looks like. The president and the first lady are intimidating the jury into letting their son off the hook on criminal gun charges.
