Donald Trump's Next Move Should Be a Trip to the Southern Border

Here is an idea I like a lot – Donald Trump should hop on Trump Force One and fly down to the Eagle Pass, Texas area.

He should do it as soon as possible. Like tomorrow. Why not? His record on securing the southern border is one that he can point to as a undeniable success. He ran on immigration being a top issue in 2015. In his campaign announcement, after he came down the escalator in Trump Tower, he spoke about illegal immigration. He made a trip to the border to see the border wall that had been put up during his time in office but that was years ago. It’s time for him to go back.

There is a plethora of reasons to criticize Joe Biden and how he has governed. Everything he touches turns into a disaster. The economy, foreign policy, the disastrous exit of American troops from Afghanistan, inflation, this handling of the pandemic, and his appeasement of the far-left wing of the party at every turn. He is the most corrupt president in my lifetime. All of that is true. However, the Biden border crisis has moved from a crisis to a catastrophe after more than three years of an open border. Even the national media and elected Democrats are noticing. Immigration is the top issue with primary voters right now. The economy is the second most important issue.

Immigration is not typically a top issue with voters. But, Biden has ignored the border for his entire time in office. He made one trip to a sanitized area of El Paso after feeling the pressure to do it. It was his one and only trip to the border. Ever. He’s clueless and deliberately turning every state into a border state. This is an easy win for Trump.

Trump doesn’t have to make it a long trip. He just needs to go to the border – preferably in the Eagle Pass area – and get the photo op with Texas National Guard as they install razor wire along the bank of the Rio Grande River. He could make a speech. There is a legal battle going on between Biden’s DOJ and Texas over the razor wire so it is a timely topic.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the razor wire doesn’t work, you know, and it is ineffective. Looks like she’s wrong, as she usually is on about every subject.

Trump has a good relationship with Governor Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. I’m sure they would welcome a visit by Trump.

He is shifting more into general election mode and he needs to remind voters about his successes in office, pre-pandemic. He secured the southern border and implemented good policies and agreements with Mexico and Latin America. It’s the opposite of what Biden has done so it provides a sharp contrast in the two candidates. It’s a no-brainer.

It’s like when Trump went to East Palestine, Ohio and showed support to that community after the toxic train derailment. He did what the Biden administration was not doing. Some people point to that trip as a reminder that he was an attentive president who kept the people in mind when something bad happened in their community. Biden still hasn’t visited East Palestine. He said he’s busy.

A trip to the border by Trump is a story that the cable networks who regularly ignore the Biden border crisis would have to cover. Maybe not MSNBC, as it doesn’t even cover Trump’s live speeches as they happen without fact-checking in real time, but CNN would probably cover it, as well as the legacy broadcast networks.

He should hammer Biden regularly with quick trips to the border to show the damage Biden is causing to our national sovereignty.
