The executive editor of The Daily Beast delivered a vicious rant against Casey DeSantis and put it in the fashion section of the online publication. The hatred and vitriol written by this woman while she accuses Casey DeSantis and her husband of ‘seething with hate’ is a sight to behold. You think the left’s hatred for Melania Trump was bad? We ain’t seen nothing yet.

The left really, really wants to run against Donald Trump again. In order to do so, they have to make sure that he stays ahead in the polls and takes out his competitors in the primary in a timely manner. Here comes the hate. DeSantis is in the number two slot in polls and most voters are checking out all the candidates in the GOP primary while assuming that the race boils down to a two man race – Trump versus DeSantis. There are other worthy rivals, such as Nikki Haley and Tim Scott, but so far they have not caught fire with the general public. Yet. It’s still early. We’ll see how the primary season develops as we go forward.

For all the talk from the left about conservative men and how misogynist their behavior is, there is no one more ugly toward women than leftist women against conservative women. There is no floor to their nasty attacks. So, here we have the executive editor of The Daily Beast – the executive editor – not only trashing Casey as a cheap knock-off of Melania Trump but dragging a list of alleged grievances against the governor and his policies in the screed.

Casey DeSantis is a knock-out. She’s very pretty and she is paving her own way with fashion. So what? What’s the problem, you might ask? Well, she wore a leather jacket with a quote Ron DeSantis frequently says on the back of it. It has an outline of Florida and an alligator with the text “Where woke goes to die” written out. How dare she. Clearly, at least to the enraged editor, Casey is delivering a message of death. Death to all those who do not agree with the policies of Ron DeSantis. You can’t make this stuff up.

She weaves in a hit on DeSantis and his handling of COVID and brings in “Jim Crow-era lynch mobs” and mass shootings.

Florida under DeSantis has had one of the highest COVID death rates in the nation, even as he’s exulted in his anti-mask policies. And as the governor whips up anti-LGBT sentiment and bans books on race, Casey’s jacket and its message of death also bring to mind the horrific Pulse nightclub mass shooting in Orlando, not to mention the state’s shameful history of Jim Crow-era lynch mobs and the Rosewood massacre. But of course, DeSantis and his cronies want to prevent kids from learning about any of that by censoring their library books and AP curricula.

That’s quite a stretch, eh? She writes that the jacket’s message is, “Watch out, America.”

The author brought up Melania’s jacket that set the left on fire, the one with “I don’t care. Do you?” that was meant as a swipe against the press and how badly they treated her, and it was made by a designer, not made just for her. It was a popular jacket that quickly sold out. The author said it was a subtle kind of jab, and brought in a reference to the kids-in-cages knock against Trump’s border security move. Casey, in contrast, is just crude, you see, with her message.

By contrast, Casey DeSantis’ coat is just like her husband Ron DeSantis’ campaign: Crude. Grasping. Saying the ugly part out loud. Whereas Trump would wink-wink at the fascists—who can forget his dog whistle to the “very fine people on both sides” at Charlottesville—DeSantis wants to peel off Trump’s base by being even more explicit about who he intends to target. You can see it right there on his wife’s jacket: DeSantis’ Florida is where the woke go to die—and a lot of other people die as well.

Charlottesville. She dragged in all the greatest hits against Trump.

Most of all, the comparison of a GOP -style Camelot potential with the DeSantis family in the White House really wrecks her.

It’s hard to say one is reading too much into a coat that’s so explicit—and anyways, as The New York Times noted in a fawning profile, Casey DeSantis is definitely trying to make a political statement with what she wears, with her aspirations of “Camelot-meets-Mar-a-Lago.” But while Casey may be trying to position herself after Jackie Kennedy (good luck) and even Melania, if this weekend is any indication, she’s falling far short. It doesn’t matter how many times she wears that ice-blue Badgley Mischka cape-dress. The DeSantis’ will never be Camelot. Jackie and JFK symbolized the opposite of vulgar pettiness—they embodied youth, energy, a commitment to moral progress in the struggle for Civil Rights, a country fresh with idealism. Not an America that was obsessed with banning books about male seahorses and rainbows, or nuking the latest Disney movie.

My, my, my. How dare Casey DeSantis try to dress well in public. But wait. The author thinks that the true fashion icons are Jill Biden and Michelle Obama and if this doesn’t represent the bitter divide in this country, I don’t know what does. Are you kidding me?

Of course, neither Melania Trump nor Casey DeSantis could ever embody the class and effortless elegance of Michelle Obama or Dr. Jill Biden. Those First Ladies have used fashion not as a punitive tool to stick it to political enemies—nor as a bored, nihilistic shrug—but as something generous and welcoming. Think the pure sweetness of Michelle’s Jason Wu floral gown for the Obamas’ first inaugural ball, or Jill’s pastel blue coat that echoed the colors of Ukraine’s flag when Volodymyr Zelensky visited the White House. In those moments, we remembered that fashion is not only a way to look and feel great, but a way to be inspired to help other people feel great about themselves, too. We remembered that fashion is a joyous extension of who you are and a symbol of what you want the world to know about you and about what you stand for. Think Bernie Sanders in his woolen Inauguration mittens. Think poet Amanda Gorman in her radiantly cheerful yellow coat that day, the color of sunshine and hope.

I can’t with this woman. The image of Michelle Obama bolting down the steps of a plane wearing shorts and a t-shirt is still burned in my brain. Jill Biden looks like she’s wearing sofa upholstery with all the overload on floral patterns. And, don’t forget the patterned stockings that looked like hooker stockings with the high heels. It’s noteworthy when she isn’t embarrassing us with her choice of clothes, not that she is always well-dressed.

The point from the angry editor is that Casey is a cheap imitation of Melania Trump. She and Ron really want to win the White House and there is desperation about them. The real problem, though, is that Casey DeSantis is a strong, smart, and bold woman who is 100% behind her husband’s political ambitions. She gets out there and works with him. She usually brings their three young children with her. She is media savvy, having worked in the news business in her career. The left hate her. Now we see full-blown DeSantis Derangement Syndrome, just like Trump Derangement Syndrome. Whatever happened to women who don’t support other women have a place in hell?

The best revenge is how well-accepted Casey is on the campaign trail. The voters are the ones who matter. The elitist editor at The Daily Beast can diss regular Americans in the middle of the country all she wants. She’s a snob. She is angry, bitter, and out-of-touch with real America. I look for more of this garbage to come as the primary moves along.
