Marianne Williamson: DNC is rigging the primary system for Biden

It’s getting ugly out there for Marianne Williamson. On Saturday she officially launched her campaign at an event at Washington, D.C.’s Union Station to be the Democrat nominee for president in 2024. Sunday she was on ABC News’s “This Week” telling Jonathan Karl that the DNC has rigged the primary in Joe Biden’s favor.

Democrat operatives are busy calling Williamson’s ‘justice and love’ presidential campaign a joke. Williamson isn’t slowing down, though, and she is calling out the DNC for blatantly ‘rigging’ the Democrat primary for Biden. She is referring to the DNC’s decision to hold the first primary in South Carolina instead of New Hampshire. In 2020, Biden won the South Carolina primary, his first primary victory, thanks to the endorsement of Rep. James Clyburn. Clyburn saved Biden’s campaign and the victory in South Carolina set Biden on the path to the nomination.

“The [Democratic National Committee] should not be rigging this system. They don’t even pretend anymore. They’re not even covert about their — they’re swaying the primary season. They’re very overt about it,” said Williamson, a former spiritual guru to Oprah Winfrey, on ABC News’s “This Week.”

Williamson ran for the nomination in 2020. She is the first official Democrat candidate, as Biden has not declared he is running for re-election. Her pitch is that voters should decide who leads them, not party leaders. Karl was rather smirky in his reaction to Williamson’s charge of the DNC rigging the primary system for Biden. He asked her what she thought about the Associated Press calling her presidential campaign a longshot. Her answer was a good one – she replied, “I would bet that ’The Associated Press’ also said that Hillary Clinton was a shoo-in.” She’s right about that. Democrats and many Republicans expected Hillary to beat Trump in 2016.

“I believe the American people should be offered an agenda for genuine, fundamental economic reform. And … it should not be the DNC that decides. It should be the voters who decide. That is what a democracy is,” she said.

“So the system that is now saying that I’m unserious and I’m not credible or I’m a long shot is the very system that protects and maintains this idea that only those whose careers have been entrenched within the system that drove us into a ditch should possibly be considered qualified to lead us out of that ditch,” she said.

“My qualification is not that I know how to perpetuate that system. My qualification is that I know how to disrupt it. And that is what we need,” she added.

The objections to Williamson challenging Biden in the primary will only grow louder now that she has officially declared herself to be a candidate. She doesn’t have much hope of being a serious challenge to the president but she does open the door to others who may want to put themselves forward as candidates. Biden is not a popular president, even among his fellow Democrats. Most Democrats want someone else to run. Williamson may not be a serious challenge but someone has to go first to offer themselves as an alternative to Biden. Biden will be 82 years old in 2024. Williamson is 70 years old now.

Saturday Williamson’s speech included her usual rhetoric about justice and love.

“We know that this country is plagued by many challenges now, not the least of which is hatred and division, which is greater than any of us have experienced … It is our job to create a vision of justice and love that is so powerful that it will override the forces of hatred and injustice and fear,” Williamson said Saturday.

The fact that Democrat operatives are springing into action against Williamson so early is a sign that they are nervous that Biden may draw a more serious challenger. One activist and lawyer said Williamson’s candidacy shouldn’t even be legitimized because Biden is a ‘revolutionary’ president.

“The media needs to stop legitimizing Marianne Williamson’s campaign for President,” Parnas wrote in a now-deleted tweet. “President Biden has been one of the most revolutionary Presidents in recent history and has the full support of Democrats across America. There is no legitimate primary. Biden is our nominee.”

Santiago Mayer, the founder and executive director of Voters of Tomorrow, also downplayed Williamson’s campaign announcement, referring to her as a “joke” with a financial motive.

“Let’s be clear: Marianne Williamson is a joke,” Mayer wrote. “She’s a fundamentally unserious candidate running as a stunt to sell her books.”

Democrat operatives may want to be careful about accusing other candidates of running for financial gain. Republicans will be reminding voters how corrupt the Biden family is as they use the family name and Joe’s political career to make millions of dollars. Emails on Hunter Biden’s laptop computer implicate Joe Biden as The Big Guy who receives a 10% cut of the deals Hunter makes. Marianne Williamson is already wealthy.

Williamson was complimentary that Biden defeated Trump in 2020. She said he prevented America from going “over the cliff.” She claims “we’re still six inches away from it.” Ironically, Democrat operatives fail to see the irony in their attacks. America is a constitutional republic that allows anyone who meets the qualifications to run for president to do so. They may not like that Williamson is running but she meets the qualifications. It makes the operatives look nervous and unsure of Biden’s strength to handle any challengers who may get in the race.

She probably won’t last very long once the primary gets going. In 2020 she dropped out on January 10. She endorsed Bernie Sanders at a rally in Austin, Texas on February 23, 2020.
