Portland Police Finally Arrest Someone: It's Going to Backfire on Them

Just yesterday I wrote about the assault of reporter Katie Daviscourt by one of the Antifa goons "protesting" outside at the Portland ICE facility. But the real story wasn't the assault, which probably surprised no one, it was the lack of response by Portland Police.

After dragging an officer over and identifying the individual responsible, the officer let the attacker walk away. And later the police put out a request asking people to help them identify the suspect.

There is absolutely no doubt at this point that Portland police are intentionally giving the Antifa goons space to carry out their nightly protests/attacks. ICE's Portland director just gave an interview yesterday confirming that police either show up slowly or not at all when Antifa assaults people in the area.

In other words, what happened to Katie Daviscourt isn't an oversight. It's policy.

Another reporter who has been on the ground covering the chaos is Nick Sortor. He has recently been critical of the Portland Police Bureau's lack of action in the area, saying so in this report for Fox News.

Later the same night there was the usual chaos in the area. The feds (as opposed to the Portland police) arrested at least one person.

And there was another fight outside. Neither of the two guys involved were arrested.

Portland police finally did show up to make arrests. And for reasons that aren't clear, they arrested Nick Sortor: The person who shot the video of the arrest didn't understand why it was happening. Neither did other bystanders.

Sortor was held overnight and released this morning. He then spoke to Fox News' Bill Melugin and gave this description of what led up to the arrest.

So he was chased, attacked, swung at someone and missed and then ran over to the officers for help. And that's when he got arrested. Portland PD put out a series of tweets defending the arrest this morning.

But as mentioned in the Melugin clip, this decision on the heals of failing to arrest many Antifa goons involved in violence is not going over well in the Trump administration. It sounds like federal oversight is coming.

A letter has already been sent to the City Attorney and the Police Chief demanding documents and information on the arrests (and non-arrests).

President Trump is also involved. This came up at today's White House press briefing.

Bottom line, Portland's decision to give free reign to Antifa is going to backfire on the city in a big way. Here's one final interview in which Sortor describes the hour he spent in a police car while officers were trying to decide what to charge him with. "They were making it up as they went," he said.
