The transcripts of interviews Ghislaine Maxwell did with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche from a prison in Tallahassee, Florida have been released today. The transcripts are quite lengthy so news outlets are scrambling to go through them, but one of the things being reported by several outlets is what Maxwell had to say about President Trump:
The late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s convicted accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, told Justice Department officials last month that President Trump was “never inappropriate with anybody” in the time the disgraced financier and future commander in chief were friends.
Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted in December 2021 of sex trafficking and conspiracy charges, sat for two days of interviews led by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in Tallahassee, Fla., last month.
“I never witnessed the President in any inappropriate setting in any way,” Maxwell told Blanche of her interactions with Trump when he was still an associate of Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s.
This had actually been leaked earlier this month but now we have Maxwell's exact words. Will this convince anyone who wasn't already convinced? My guess is that it will not. Maxwell would obviously like to get something in exchange for her statements so she has an obvious reason not to poke the bear in the form of President Trump. In fact, she had lots of positive things to say about him.
"I may have met Donald Trump at that time, because my father was friendly with him and liked him very much," she said, referring to Robert Maxwell, who owned the New York Daily News at the time.
"President Trump was always very cordial and very kind to me. And I just want to say that I find — I — I admire his extraordinary achievement in becoming the president now. And I like him, and I’ve always liked him. So that is the sum and substance of my entire relationship with him," she said.
It sounds to me like she's sucking up to the person who could spring her from prison. That doesn't necessarily mean she's lying. She may be telling the truth here. I just don't think it will convince any Trump-hating skeptics. Case in point:
...it appears that President Donald Trump is “getting what he wants,” said Dave Aronberg, former Democratic state attorney for Palm Beach County.
He also underscored that Maxwell was sentenced in 2022 to 20 years in federal prison for carrying out a years-long scheme with the disgraced financier to groom and sexually abuse underage girls. “You had multiple individuals say she was part of the abuse,” Aronberg said. “You can’t believe anything this woman says.”
For what it's worth, Maxwell also denied any wrongdoing by Bill Clinton:
“So they spent time on the plane together, and I don’t believe there was ever a massage on the plane. So that would’ve been the only time that I think that President Clinton could have even received a massage. And he didn’t, because I was there,” Maxwell said...
Maxwell said she did not believe Epstein had “an independent friendship” with Clinton outside of the charity work. She said she had “no memory” of him in any of Epstein’s properties, including his private island, known as Little St James.
“He never. Absolutely never went. And I can be sure of that because there’s no way he would’ve gone – I don’t believe there’s any way that he would’ve gone to the island, had I not been there. Because I don’t believe he had an independent friendship, if you will, with Epstein,’ Maxwell said. She said she saw no warmth between Clinton and Epstein saying, “He was a rich guy with a plane.”
So there you go. She says both Clinton and Trump are innocent. Some of the other highlights (if you can call it that) from her 9-hours of conversations include the following. She claimed there was no client list.
“There is no list. We’ll start with that. The genesis of that story, I can actually trace for you from its absolute inception, if that is what you’re interested in,” Maxwell said...
“Absolutely no. There is no list. There is no – I’m not aware of any blackmail. I never heard that. I never saw it and I never imagined it,” Maxwell said.
She maintained her own innocence and distanced herself from Epstein:
Regarding the allegations that Epstein abused underage girls, Maxwell said, “I never saw that with them at all.” But she added, “I’m not saying that Mr. Epstein did not do those things… I don’t feel comfortable saying that today, given what I now know to be true.”
“I am not here to defend him,” Maxwell said. She insisted, however, that she “did not participate in that activity” with underage girls.
As for Jeffrey Epstein's suicide, she doesn't believe it.
Maxwell was asked to speculate on who might have killed him, and she said she didn’t know...
“In prison, where I am, they will kill you or they will pay – somebody can pay a prisoner to kill you for $25 worth of commissary,” Maxwell said. “That’s about the going rate for a hit with a lock today.”
