'He's an animal!': George Santos has a meltdown involving a baby and an anti-Israel protester

What in the hell just happened? Something happened and George Santos is mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. I’m sure this mystery will be resolved eventually but right now it’s just more drama surrounding the least credible man in congress (not an easy feat). Here’s what I know. It involved George Santos and a baby. Why did George Santos have a baby? I have no idea but he was carrying a pretty small baby.

And then a few minutes later he was without the baby and shouting about Hamas sympathizers.

Normally, if a member of congress was this angry I’d assume something awful happened. But this is George Santos, a man who lies almost as often as he breathes. So I’m thinking it’s entirely possible this drama is something he just cooked on his own.

This reporter says Santos was in fact approached by two people who were wandering the halls talking about “Israeli genocide.”

And I think this is a moment later when Santos pointed out one of the people to police. And sure enough the guy is ranting about Israel and Santos just shouts over him, calling him “human scum.”

And here’s Santos version of what happened.

The person he identified was apparently arrested.

So, look, I’m generally on Santos side when it comes to Israel and Hamas but let’s not forget there is a broader context here which doesn’t involve Israel. This has been a big week for Santos and not in a good way. On Tuesday, new federal charges were filed against him.

Federal prosecutors on Tuesday filed a significant array of additional charges against Representative George Santos of New York, accusing him of new criminal schemes, including stealing the identities and credit card details of donors to his campaign.

The new accusations were made in a 23-count superseding indictment that laid out how Mr. Santos had charged his donors’ credit cards “repeatedly, without their authorization,” distributing the money to his and other candidates’ campaigns and to his own bank account.

The new indictment filed in the Eastern District of New York added 10 charges against Mr. Santos: conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, access device fraud, false statements to the Federal Election Commission and falsifying records to obstruct the commission.

LIke everyone else he’s innocent until proven guilty but my own guess is that he’s guilty and he’s headed to prison. Some New York Republicans finally decided they’d seen enough and by Wednesday were talking about pushing him out of congress.

A clutch of Republican House members from New York began pushing on Wednesday to expel one of their own, Representative George Santos, amid mounting federal charges that he defrauded donors and lied about his campaign finances.

The group of six New York freshmen announced plans to swiftly introduce an expulsion resolution to try to capitalize on a spate of new charges against Mr. Santos and a vacuum in House Republican leadership, hoping to whip up enough support to rid themselves and their party of a major political liability ahead of next year’s elections.

“We feel that enough’s enough,” said Representative Anthony D’Esposito, one of the most vulnerable Republican freshman, who represents an adjoining New York district to Mr. Santos’s. “He’s a stain on the institution.”

So he’s really having a bad week and now, suddenly, he’s making a spectacle of himself as a champion for Israel. It’s worth remembering that Santos ran for office as both gay and Jewish. He claimed his grandparents had fled persecution by the Nazis. But Santos made that all up too.

Santos, a Long Island Republican, has said that his father was Catholic and his mother was Jewish, and that both faiths “are mine.” The very first line of the “About George” page on his campaign website states: “George’s grandparents fled Jewish persecution in Ukraine, settled in Belgium, and again fled persecution during WWII.”

But the website myheritage.com lists Santos’ maternal grandparents as having both been born in Brazil before the Nazis rose to power — his grandfather, Paulo Horta Devolder, in 1918, and his grandmother, Rosalina Caruso Horta Devolder, in Rio, in 1927.

There’s basically no evidence his grandmother was Jewish and his mother was pretty clearly Catholic. So it’s fair to say this is a guy who tried to connect himself to the Holocaust and it was all a lie. Something to keep in mind as you listen to him shout about his commitment to Israel. Again, I very much side with Israel in this conflict but I don’t think having George Santos once again trying to turn Jewish suffering into his own personal story of outrage is helpful. Now, if it turns out the Israel critics were shouting while he was holding the baby, then they were out of line but I just cant’ take Santos’ word for it.

I am left with several gnawing questions though: Whose baby was that? Why was Santos holding the baby? Where did the baby go when he started shouting?
