Just Cancel the RBG Awards

The Dwight D. Opperman Foundation canceled the award gala named after Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG) because Ruth’s family threw a fit over the candidates chosen to receive the award.

The family of the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is taking their ball and going home! All because the Opperman Foundation chose Robert Murdoch, Elon Musk, Martha Stewart, Michael Milkin, and Sylvester Stallone as the beneficiaries.

The award isn’t that old. It was created in 2019 and, up until this year, was handed out to women to recognize their trailblazing accomplishments. Such recipients have been Barbra Streisand and the late Queen Elizabeth II.

March has been Women’s History Month (since 1995), so it makes sense that this award ceremony happens at this time of year. Personally, I don’t think we need months to celebrate special groups, but we’ll move on.

When Ruth’s family got wind of who would be awarded this prize, they were unhappy. We don’t know if they were distraught that men were included for the first time or if it was what these people represented was the problem?
