It is a testament to the misery of the entire situation that this question is also familiar to many of the Gazans that Hamas purports to act for. As Max Boot writes, the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are blockaded by Israel and Egypt into one of the poorest places on Earth. (Read The Post’s recent report on Gazan merchants’ fears that Israel will disappear even the donkeys they rely on for their businesses.)
But, as Max writes, “the only certainty is that the Hamas attack will make life worse for Palestinians.” Already, Israel’s military response is overwhelming, killing militants and civilians, too, and the recognition on both sides that compassionate coexistence is the only realistic path forward seems much further off today than before the attack.
